The freestyle projector is a good idea, unfortunately as a first gen project they are pretty trash

    • Saw these at homeshow, incredibly washed out.
Maybe better in a completely dark room, but couldnt say.

    • Thanks for the feedback, almost purchased, i shall dodge and continue my plan to await the new Google Pixel 8 Pro

  • Have you used one Poppymocky? Any issues you experienced?

I looked into them when they came out. Poor autofocus (since the angling is one of the selling points), weak lumens from the bulb, sluggish performance and often needing adjusting as the unit falls down off the craddle.
Better off with a fixed postioned projector at a much cheaper price.

I say this as someone that has a samsung phone and frame tv. So not brand bias.

      • Keen to get your thoughts on the frame tv if you have a second to PM me. My parents need to replace a one connect tv (wall mounted in a recess) and the frame seems to be the only one available with one connect still. Can you turn off the art feature bit???

        • +1

Yeah you can turn the art feature off. It is optionable (as is subscribing to get more images). We like it since it sits flush against a large wall. It doesn't have the usual samsung overpopping of colours so that was a win for me. The art display really does fool people, though.

Overall we have no issues with the quality of the TV, and everything works fine. I.e. no buyers remorse even at the premium.

We splashed out on the 75 inch and paid NL to do a professional install since there was no way i was going to entertain buggering that up by trying to find the studs. I'm pretty sure NL are open to neg on the tvs and some flex on delivery fees.

          • @Poppymocky: Thanks heaps. We're replacing an already wall mounted 75" Samsung from 2018/19 that has died (came with the house) but we'll pay for the install. It's ónly" $4k ish from what i can see where we're being refunded 7k.

I own one, I got for around $700 with Samsung EPP discount about 6 months ago, we use it as our 'bedroom tv' so mostly in complete darkness. I'm not a big specs guy, so can't talk to all that, but as a gadget, it's my favourite purchase in the last few years. The speakers and the user interface are great. It has all the apps I'd want apart from Sky Go (just have to watch sky go through the web browser). I had a nebula capsule 2 before this, which was trash compared to this. I brought a 100w powerbank instead of the battery base and have used it as a portable projector and it worked perfectly fine.

Samsung have been trying to make that projector go somewhere for ages. Only ever saw one sold (and then returned) when I worked for NL. It was a freebie with heaps of stuff.

Seems like a good idea but at 1300 literally anything else is a better experience imo

  • Thanks for the feedback! Hopefully Samsung can fix the shortcomings with the next version.

It looks like the $800 voucher from the Samsung store is a better deal in this case.

    • Rumor has it they are going back to exynos seeing the history i cant see it performing better than snapdragon
