Self hosted price tracking

hi

does anyone use self hosted price tracking?

eg. i want to track the price of this item on chemist warehouse website:

https://www.chemistwarehouse.co.nz/buy/92104/avene-xeracalm-…

I tried changedetection.io but i had trouble getting it to work properly, i was unable to set an alert when price dropped below a certain level.

Haven't tried any browser extensions, but i guess i could spin up a docker with a browser and browser extension installed.

i have no coding ability although usually i can figure things out by adapting existing code.

  • not sure if you have an android device but i use an app called 'web alert (website monitor)' to track prices

  • I have been using the Distill Web Monitor chrome extension. It takes a bit of trial and error to get it set up right, but it should work for you.

Edit: looks like you can set up price alerts using conditions: https://distill.io/docs/web-monitor/using-conditions-to-get-…

    • thanks yes. i came back to mention i might try this exact service. the free account supports 5 trackers with 100 poling events per month and you don't need to self host (no risk of your ip being labeled as a web crawler). definitely going to try this.

      • If your IP is not fixed, then probably not an issue being 'flagged' unless your ISP doesn't like it (never heard of that being an issue, but it might be a thing)?

      • I haven't signed up to an account, it's all just running locally. It opens a browser tab, and checks the page then closes at a specified frequency. If you're doing that once or twice a day I don't see you getting labeled as a web crawler. It'd be no different than you opening and checking the page manually.

          :-)

On that basis, many of us would be Choice Cheapies Crawlers, or should that be Stalkers!
