  It's $498 upfront or $29.95 per month for 24 months

  Early Exit/Termination fee is based on $40 * No of remaining months. So after 12 months in a 24 month contract you will pay $480

  Not quite. The $498 upfront and $29.95 per month are totally different charges. Morepork requires the purchase of gear and an ongoing subscription. The $498 is the purchase of the gear and the $29.95 per month is the monitoring service. With this deal, the $498 is completely waived. All you you have to do is pay the monthly subscription ($29.95) for 12 months, not 24 months. If you exit before 12 months then there will be an ETC.

  So basically, if you commit to 12 months of service with them, they give you all the gear for free, whereas, you would usually pay $498 for the gear and then pay the monthly fee as well. Not a bad deal at all.

  But what's the point of the "free" gear at the end without the service? So essentially you are stuck with them or the gear is useless and it looks like an overpriced service for what it provides.

    I see where you're coming from. Not sure if the gear can be used outside of Morepork.

    It's definitely not for everyone, but for anyone seriously considering Morepork as an option, this is a great deal.

    As for the service, I can't comment. The post below from GZ makes a decent case I guess.

    "I paid money for mine - not the $1k, but doesn't bother me they are giving them out for free. Served the purpose at the time, solved the problem I had (failing wired alarm and desire for remote control). This free offer won't change that past value :-)
    As for the service - I initially wanted to save the $30/month and DIY but quickly decided their SaaS backend, and control panel with built in backup battery and 4G SIM, was worth the $30/month. I give this kit the thumbs up :b" Regs
