Jetstar offers return airfares to Tokyo from Auckland and Christchurch from $665 Return per person inc all taxes. This works out to $1350 Total for 2 passengers RT inc taxes. Jetstar advertises the sale as $638 for 2 people one way.

Looking at other flight sites (Webjet, Kayak), a similar itinerary would set you back $2,941 total on Qantas and about the same on Cathay Pacific.
Things to note:
- Flight goes through Gold Coast Australia, so not direct. Not sure if you can attempt a longer stopover on the way.
- Baggage fees & payment costs extra so keep that in mind.
- The flights are going via the Boeing 787 Dreamliner which supposedly are a great plane.

Na, no stopover from what I saw, the only way could be to ring them and try, but can't do it online.
I paid $150 for a 23kg bag for 1 passenger on all 4 flights, so about $35/flight - Steep, but no option really.
After booking my flights, got an email that the times had changed, by about 15 minutes either side, but they also offered alternative dates, so was able to extend the trip by 3-4 days for free, into dates that weren't originally included in the last sale.
