  • Anyone tried these out, do they heat evenly. Guessing they're non stick will a fried egg get stuck without enough oil?

They are cast iron, they become non-stick after seasoning and lots of use - they will last a lifetime if cared for. Note they are heavy, take a long time to heat up and need care (reseasoning, careful cleaning/drying). I love mine, but for quick meals I stick to hard anodized non-stick pans

    • imo cast iron pans are overrated. they're heavy, require oiling after every use or they rust. as to whether eggs stick or not, depends on if you put enough oil on the surface and if the oil is hot enough

      • +1

If it rusts then it's not seasoned. If you season them properly then they are trouble free.
I think this is a good deal. There's no difference between expensive cast iron pans and cheap ones.

Pretty much this, when properly seasoned they're effortless.

Ours now get enough oil from our food and we rarely add extra, mostly non-stick and when something does manage to we use metal utensils to get it off.

Every year it's better and better vs every six months it's worse and worse with teflon.

Wipe it down with a paper towel, occasionally scrape it with your metal fish slice and you never wash it in the sink.

These are probably pretty low quality as far as cast iron goes, but I'd now take crappy cast iron over anything else to fry with. Pots remain stainless.

        • i think my oven doesn't get hot enough to season these pans or something

          ¯_(ツ)_/¯

That's just instant seasoning, or faux seasoning.

Real seasoning is just using it normally then instead of washing it in the sink like you would any other pan, scraping it down, rubbing in a bit of oil and heating it up again on the stove until it just smokes.

Repeat for a long period of time (3-12 months, depending on how religious you are about it).

Mine no longer requires that and I just wipe it with a paper towel with occasional scraping first.

        • @justaddwater:

Throw it on the bbq and let it smoke like crazy :)

  • whats the shipping on this? more than usual because of the weight?

    • I paid $6.99 to Auckland. So not huge.
