I signed up last Friday, hopefully didn't tip them over the edge!

    • Hi,
How did you sign up.call or online?

  • -1

is there a promo code? its not showing the promo price when i tried signing up

  • Why not do IPTV

    • -1

      Link?

      • +3

Be careful it is most likely some overseas pirated IPTV set-up box

    HD Ticket is a scam.

Basically the cost is $49 as everyone has 1080 tv these days.

1080p might have been premium 12 years ago, sky are still a joke and i wouldn't even pay $20.

    • I wonder why they haven't added in a 4k ticket these days, and made 1080 the default res. I also wonder what skys customer base is. I suspect you have a lot of people who solely have it for sport, then a lot of older people who don't know how to do the online VOD thing.

I don't think their crappy satellite has the bandwidth to do 4k on most channels. And no one would pay a monthly fee to watch couple of hours (at best) of 4k content per months.

Plus they also need to design a new set-up box…

        • Sky doesn't even have pure HD, its upscaled as they cant broadcast HD through satellite

        • Upscaled from what res?

        • @Jizah: Its upscaled from SD, through the SKY system it is not possible to broadcast true HD.

        • I am guessing it is far too expensive to upgrade all that hardware. Netflix and lightbox have the right idea, let the customer buy the hardware, and stream all services over the internet, as they can easily upgrade the picture quality.

Even then Sky's HD is more like 720p rather than 1080p with the terrible bitrates they allow for each channel. Free view is quite a bit clearer as is Netflix

  • Wish this was available to suckers that already have sky

If this was 1998. then sure, I'll sign up. But in the 21st century with ADSL2, VDSL2 and fibre internet widely available in NZ and many online streaming choices I found it ridiculous to pay that sort of price (even with a discount) for an ugly satellite dish on my house and a low resolution viewing on my 4K tv. I quit Sky 6 years ago, built a new house and I refuse to put that scar on my roof. Gone online and never looked back. The current Sky's business model is obsolete, and even if they kill this deal then they will be forced very soon to offer even bigger discounts.

  • I just checked the channel selection and it is terrible, even at $39 I can't see a reason to buy. It appears to be far fewer channels than 10 years ago.

  • Hi,
How do I sign up to this sky deal. have called them few times on 0800 475 988 but couldn't reach anyone.

    Thanks

    • I believe it is via that phone number only. Either they are extremely busy or aren't using that number anymore?

Hi was able to sign up to this deal on 0800 475 988 about 1 hour ago get installed friday, great deal. actually called number twice as had get more details and got through immediately both times.

  • If you already have Sky and currently paying $80 a month for it, is it possible to cancel and then sign up with this deal?

    • Yes you can but since there is normally a 3 month stand down period before you can sign up a new customer. You have to sign up under someone else's name, which may or may not work depending on the sales person you strike

This may be the reason why it is expiring. Not too many details as yet, but I'm sure it will all be available soon.

  • I wonder if the promotions team have another deal now… (I signed up yesterday)

  • +1

Wow they cocked this up. They had an opportunity to completely redesign their model, and all they did was split it in half and make it cheaper to get into their expensive sports package.

  • are they seriously charging 9.99 for HD?

  • Does anyone know if this deal is still on or has it completely expired now?

    • Still on … I cancelled my Vodafone service yesterday , and switched back to spark (by far the best customer service telco in NZ) … catch was they also cancelled my sky tv subscription ! So I found this thread and tried my luck. The salesperson I got had no issues giving me the deal as my previous subscription had been cancelled, she didn’t care when !

Winning ! They come to hook it all back up again on Thursday ! (Funny part is I still have the my sky box from last connection) $39 / month for 12months !

Why they don’t just offer EVERYONE this I don’t know ,,, they would have a sky box in majority of households if this was their standard price !!!

      • Because in the weird business model that is Sky, they value customer churn :\
Much in the same way many other companies incentivise new customers but ignore the ones paying for the privilege already…although of late, this tide it turning and you see more now starting to say things like "and existing customers also get this"…For now though, Sky remain with their head firmly in the sand :)

  • Just had our install, Sky basic (full), movies, sports, HD ticket and mysky for $59, and we got Soho free because of the new packages

  • The deal is still going! Just signed up today, laughing all the way to the bank.
