Do you guys know any cheap car rentals in the south island ? for roughly about 4-5 days.

Check YourDrive - their is a referral thing on Cheapies. Individual people renting out their cars. Not sure how it works for longer trips.

There are websites that allow you to use rental cars for free or something like $1,but they are for very specific journeys in a short time frame, as they want cars relocated from one city to another, so it's cheaper for them to get people to drive for them for free than pay their own people to relocate.

  I've used imoova.com to relocate motorhomes between north and south islands.
  Usually 4 days at $5/day, extra for additional days.
  Check for free ferry, bond (at least $1000) age 21+.

    I noticed imoova require full tank on return, transfercar usually doesn't.
    
    what was your experience?
