  This is quite an old model (bought one for the in-laws almost 1.5 years ago) Make sure you flash a generic ROM to get rid of all the carrier bloatware.

    Probably not better. Quite similar. Good local warranty support from Samsung compared to parallel imported phones however

    The Xiaomi has a better screen resolution, better CPU, more ram, more storage, larger battery, has an IR blaster

    To be honest I think the Xiaomi has no disadvantage except it isn't local

    Neither have NFC. If you use phone touchless pay such as google pay you need this

    Personally I don't like buying the less popular models. Get the old flagship phones 2nd hand if you can because they have better aftermarket and software support, and retain their value much better when it's time to upgrade.

    You can get a Galaxy S5 on Trademe for about the same money. If you want a Xiaomi get the Redmi Note 4 or 5, because the Redmi Note models are by far the most popular. Xiaomi has dual-SIM which can be quite handy, especially if you got all those spare SIM cards from the Alcatel Pixi 4 deal.
