These known to be any good?
I've always purchased WD drives, but it's been a while and am not sure if they're any good of recent times.
Who really knows these days, with things usually built down to a price point rather than for genuine longevity. You pays your money and takes your chances. When I looked a year or so ago people in random forums were pretty scathing of Seagate and WD was flavour of the month. But in 20 years I've only ever had a WD drive go bad on me.
Similar experience with SSDs, I have an el-cheapo OCZ Vertex 2E (8 years old??) that's still going fine. Meanwhile the more expensive Crucial M4 I bought around the same time for a gaming desktop, rather quickly started suffering an intermittent fault. It was always a 'cross your fingers' moment if you had to reboot that machine.
At the end of the day it's a trade-off between price point and warranty for me. Whether your individual drive will go bad cannot be predicted no matter which brand you buy. WD are of course a main player and you could do worse than this deal I reckon.
Hope you get some other answers, I'm curious what others think too.
Thanks mate, matches my situation exactly too, right down to the OCZ Vertex!
Will Noels price match against Dick Smith?
Unlikely, but has anyone tried?Noel Leeming can be buggers - easiest way to find out is I think you can attempt price-match online now. If you can catch their online chat people when they're available just ask there. I've heard if they do price match they just give you a voucher code to enter online so you don't even have to go into the store. I haven't used it but it's a pretty handy way of doing things. ps - Long live the Vertex 2E!! lol
@choc squiggle: yip they give you a unique code which is only valid for so long. The online chat is offline a lot though which is annoying.
@nachos: Yeah they're offline a lot these days. Will try again tomorrow.
Pretty good price. I think I paid $144 from PBTech at one of their sales recently which was very good value.
