Intel 660p M.2 2280 Pcie X4 SSD - 2TB US $250 (NZ $375), 512GB US $75 (NZ $113) + NZ $18 @ Newegg (Not Certain Will Ship to NZ)

While browsing the NewEgg Black Friday catalogue I noticed these deals and they seem quite good for a PCI-express M.2 SSD, especially the 2TB one as it's quite close or actually better than a bunch of SATA SSDs. I don't follow the market that well but a quick check on SlickDeals finds people seem to agree.

  • Intel 660p Series M.2 2280 2TB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SSDPEKNW020T8X1 - US$249.99 (~NZ$375)

  • Intel 660p Series M.2 2280 512GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SSDPEKNW512G8XT - US$74.99 (~NZ$112.50)

No 1TB as the price isn't listed in their catalogue but wouldn't be surprised if it's also discounted. Also not mentioned in the description copied from NewEgg but note these use QLC NAND with all the performance and longevity implications there of and could actually perform slightly worse than a hard disk in some situations, although in many areas will be at least one order of magnitude better & also significantly better than any SATA SSD.

Shipping will probably be about NZ$17.50 for one based on current charges.

Do note I'm not certain they will ship to NZ or they will offer it as the same price, although they currently do. (And I believe NewEgg can be difficult with YouShop if they don't.) Exchange rates are based on current NewEgg rates. The 2TB is quite borderline to the NZ$60 tax due threshold (NZ$400 for items without duty) so depending on the precise exchange rate, it could be hit.

I'm not certain of the starting time, the ad simply says 11/22 for this specific deal. The general sale starts at 9am 19th but since the 22nd is Thanksgiving it may be late in the evening that it will start. I've given midnight PT as I assume this is the earliest it could start.

  • Although very tempting, after doing research I'm going to avoid this first gen QLC.

  • Linus Tech Tips did a review on this type of SSD.

Seems like it's fine for some applications and not for others

  • Dunno if anyone cares, but the deal did start at midnight PT/9pm here so it's on now. Still stuck of both. The 1TB wasn't discounted.
