  • Damn, wish I saw this yesterday. Had just bought one 2nd hand at $320, but wouldn't mind paying the extra $80 for a brand new pair. Oh well.

These are definitely one of the best, if not the best noise cancelling headphones on the market atm. Unfortunately, they aren't as comfortable as I'd like. My ears get a bit sore after a while of wearing them.

    • I had an issue with comfort too, to the level I was considering selling them a week after I bought them. Turns out my left ear is a bit lower than my right ear, and I have to wear it with extending the left side a bit more. After the adjustment it's been fine for me.

      • Haha I think mine is the same! My left ear always feel a bit more sore than my right after wearing it for a while. I have already tried your method, but still found it to be quite annoying. If I'm super focused, I don't notice it that much. I've had the same issue with my previous headphones as well. The one other method I'd recommend to others with the same problem, is to stretch the headphone out a bit. You need to get something like a small cardboard box, or get a huge bowl or something, then just put your headphone over them and leave them stretched for a few hours (overnight is good). I found that part of the reason why my ears feel sore is because the headphones are too compressed against my ears. By stretching them out, they don't press that strong against you. Eventually, they will compress inwards again so you might have to stretch them again every now and then.

But atm, the XM3 is the only suitable choice for me, as the noise cancelling on this is much better than the Bose QC35 II and I need noise cancelling pretty badly in my work office environment. I can't stand the noise.

And just FYI for everyone else, it'll most likely be a couple of months before the XM3 drops below $400. So if you're looking at buying this brand new, now's probably a good time. Even with employee CSC discounts, my mates were only able to get this at either $400 or $420. I know someone who got his brand new at $380, but again that's with employee discount and with a lot of social charm and haggling. These don't seem to be dropping in price below the $400s anytime soon, so I'd say just buy them now while you still have the chance.

However, from my personal opinion, I don't believe these are worth $400. Realistically, I think they are more around $300~$350.

  • Looks like it's available for NZD 379 at cool mobile. Not sure what's the catch.
