Fresh US Cherries $9.99/kg @ Pak'n'save (Royal Oak)

30

Maybe a little late but then again it is Auckland. Noticed one day sale at Pak'n'save Royal Oak for fresh US cherries selling at $9.99 per kg. They look decent and seemed popular but didn't try them. I don't generally buy imported fresh cherries but assume it is a decent price since AFAIK it is for NZ ones.

Happened to be in the area on Tuesday when I saw that. Would have assumed they still had cherries but at a different price as it was marked as a one day special. But looking at their online shopping https://www.paknsaveonline.co.nz/product/5046544_kgm_000pns?… they're still showing cherries as $9.99 / kg 'everyday low' now and also Friday evening. You'll need to have Royal Oak selected as your pickup store to see. Most other Auckland stores I tried don't have cherries although Westgate does but at $24.99 and Botany $19.99.

So maybe Royal Oak still has cherries for $9.99. If you live nearby may be worth trying your luck.

Or maybe their online shopping is wrong and either they forgot to update the price (although I would assume it's tied into the same backend as their POS system) or more likely they ran out of stock and forgot to mark this and there was no reason to update the price. Or maybe they changed price for a day or two and now are back to $9.99.

I don't recall if I've seen a one day special at Pak'n'save before but at least for my local store I have found their pricing can be Briscoes like. Some of their red sticker extra low are a week or a few weeks and they they go back to the yellow sticker everyday low which is reasonable. But I've seen some stuff which is at the same red sticker 'extra low' price for many months non stop. And even for those which regularly change, it's hardly uncommon that the item is nearly always at a 'extra low' price just a different one. So I guess I wouldn't be that surprised if a 'one day special', wasn't really.

      • Thanks for the info!

        • So I visited the Royal Oak PakNSave today and they dont sell the cherries anymore. I asked the staff working at the produce section and he said they pulled the cherries due to quality issues, but can still bring them out if I want to buy them.
