Not at all. I was a Hasbro / MB / Parker / etc fan. Then I played some modern games and realised I'd been wasting my time. The selection can be overwhelming. If anyone wants suggestions let us know, happy to help.
Family games might be a good place to start if looking to replace the "bad" Hasbro games.

Hasbro.. the makers of such classics as Operation, Connect Four, Monopoly and Guess Who? Shit? Hmm..

Based on the ratings given to these games, yes.
        https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1406/monopoly

Most of the old games involve high levels of luck and chance. Not a problem in itself, but if that's all then it limits replayability and enjoyment.

A good (if you like deep game design) talk about luck in games by Richard Garfield https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av5Hf7uOu-o
He's the creator of Magic The Gathering, the OP might know a little about that :-)

Ratings? Whhaaat? I just want to sit down with the kids and play Guess Who. Methinks someone is overthinking this.

@UnitedWeFall: Ratings are helpful to see what most people think is good, and these are weighted averages of 1000's of people, so they can't all be wrong. But like any consumer review you need to form your own opinion (the best Mexican restaurant isn't going to be your thing if you don't like spicy food).
Perhaps don't overthink it, just try something new :-)

Some people want fun, simple family games

  • Also ymmv as to whether you actually get the Maccas voucher. Never got mine last time.

    • Hi nem2k2,

      How does it work?

Is it a mail in / online redemption, using a code on the receipt?

Do they, or at least, are they supposed to, post you a McDonalds voucher?

      Thanks,

      Alan.

      • You mail in a receipt and they are supposed to mail you a voucher.

        • Thanks.
