I'd probably go with Skinny. Prices seem to be on par with Skinny (eg data and price bump vs the $16 plan, slightly less data on the $33 plan vs the $36 plan, $70 vs 77 for 32GB of data vs 40GB+) but Skinny has rollover data.

Could be good if you need a one off blast of data, then cancel the 32GB plan.

    • +1

Skinny has useless customer service. No progress after 2 escalations to management either. Gave up after 7 weeks and changed provider.

    • +1

Kogan's best when you can commit to 365 days.

      Then the $33.90 plan (4GB) becomes $21.10/month ($256 upfront).

  • +3

365 day plans are also on sale

e.g. Small plan is $13.40 per 30 days - when you prepay $163.03 for 365 days access
1.5GB per 30 days + Unlimited calls and texts to standard NZ and AU numbers

    • +3

Oh yeah, I didn't notice those. The 365 plans look pretty good at the high end.

      • +1

Yep,agreed we FINALLY have some real mobile phone plan competition deals in NZ with the arrival of kogan mobile. In terms of the "unlimited calls and texts" (to NZ AND Oz!) offer part, the 365 day smallest plan is a huge bargain at just over $13 per 30 days. :)))). (Don't think warehouse mobile plans includes calls/texts to Oz too, right?).

  • +3

yay! finally more competition. I've always wanted a 365day plan, esp running a business it's so much easier.

  • +6

Plans looks decent, but no data rollover is a bit of a deal-breaker for me.

  • +1

Nice for people with dual-SIM phones. $7 for 32gb data for the month of September, another $7 for October. (activate the 2nd SIM before 30 September)

    • Except they state the SIM you order "leaves warehouse in 1-2 weeks" and for Auckland the estimated delivery time is 3-5 business says after dispatch up to regional areas being 7-14 business days after dispatch. You may not even receive the SIM until October if you live outside Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.

I know these are worst case scenarios but they're not in any hurry to get the SIM to you.

      • Well fingers crossed! I doubt that they will leave potential customers hanging for weeks at a major mobile carrier launch.

  • +4

    Data add-on price is underwhelming.
21.90 for 3GB which is more expensive than Warehouse Mobile. And doesn't carry over (it even forfeits the previous data pack if you buy a new one before existing one expires)

  • oi, why not call it Dick Smiths Mobile? :-)

    • I don't get it what's the context?

      • +1

Kogan bought over Dick Smith Electronics a few years back, when they went under, and run Dick Smith branded estore , which is a copy of thier parent store.

  • The 365 Prepay Plans look great as they have up to 40% discount.

For example the LARGE (35% Discount) which is $30.70 per 30 days gives you 15GB per 30 days and unlimited calls and texts to NZ and AUS. Even though it is not rollover, it is a lot more than my current 2 degrees pay monthly plan for the same cost per month with only 2.5GB and is not unlimited calls.

The EXTRA LARGE (40% Discount) is only $4 more and you get 32GB every 30 days.

Note: In order to activate the Kogan Mobile SIM, you will be required to agree to the Kogan Mobile Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy, and to receive marketing communications from Kogan Mobile and its partners.

Nope nope nope not doing that again, they sell your email to 3rd party advertisers who will spam your email with marketing/dodgy shit that ends up in your junk folder. So annoying

    • +2

Use a disposable Email address. Yahoo allows you to create disposable Email addresses from your main Email account.

The bigger thing I'm worried about are SMS ads.

    • I've never had that issue with Kogan Mobile in Australia.

For those comparing Skinny with this, remember, Skinny offer 28 day packs (13 packs per annum) This is 12.2 packs per annum. So make sure that you add 6.5% on top of Skinny prices to compare apples with apples. I am currently with Skinny, but I'm definitely considering jumping the ship. Thank you for posting this.

    $34.90 for 32GB is amazing!

  • +5

The real killer deal is the $13.40/month (365 days upfront) plan. Amazing for the unlimited calls to NZ/AU.

Prior to this we would have to get the $36/ 28 day Skinny plan for unlimited calls so this is a pretty good discount over it. :D

Waiting for Warehouse, Skinny and 2D's response :D.

    • Yep, the 365 day 1.5gb per month is pretty good. I'm on the $16.00 / 28 days Skinny plan which works out as 365/28*16=208.57 per 365 days so this saves around $45 per year, at the expense of rollover data, which I can live without.

  • It looks good but I'd still stick with Skinny because Kogan doesn't have rollover data..

    • True. While the pricing looks good, no rollover for data and minutes. Will stay for Skinny.

      • +1

don't need rollover on minutes when their plans are all unlim for that.

  • Good to see more competition!
Any know if the Extra Large plan allow data sharing/Tethering/Hot Spotting?

  • +1

The only bad thing is the sims currently ship from Aussie and according to the site and my order it will take 1-2 weeks to ship it

    • yeah that's a PITA

  • ^365 day offers valid for new and existing Kogan Mobile customers. Personal use only. Discounts available on Kogan Mobile Prepay Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large 365 day plans, including renewals, purchased before 11:59pm NZDT 28/10/2019 unless sold out prior.

Discount does not apply to subsequent renewals.

  • Do the yearly plans give you the set amount of data each month or does it pile you with all of it?

    • Per month.

  • Got my Sim card today And it took one week.

    • Same here, popped it into SIM2 slot and grabbed the 32GB. You can turn off auto-renewal too if you're just in it for the promo.

  • Kogan Support are terrible, they really don't know what they are doing. Highly recommend being wary of that before entering into a 1 year deal with them, because if anything goes wrong, be prepared to have your time wasted.

    • +3

So they like to Dick you around?

  • SIM card took a few days to arrive. Activated Online. Decent network performance.

    However!
Can't log in to my account to disable auto-renew - never received any verification emails.
Kogan Support are horrendous. As @denverthedinosaur mentions - they really have no idea what they're doing. Much worse than Kogan AU.

    • Thanks for letting us know. I was worried they will keeping charging the credit card for months after cancelling :-0

  • Purchased on the 12th, shipped the next day, and didn't hear anything from them after that. I'm suppose to receive a tracking number for this, aye?

    • Mine just came in a standard envelope, no tracking.

  • +2

    Confirmed extended to 21/10
