GST on overseas Black Friday deals going to further put a damper on things too

    • That's so funny I remember someone saying the same thing last year!!

  • Thanks - definitely keen on Spiderman PS4 game for $29.

  • do we pay gst for anything order from aliexpress now? even the product just $2. the customs will send me an invoice to pay the gst?

If the importer exceeds 60k then they have to charge gst

      • cool thanks. so we should now avoid best sellers? as they are likely exceed $60k

My understanding is that customs won't chase you to pay GST on stuff under $1,000, but the shop you buy from is supposed to collect GST on those purchases. IE: Aliexpress charges 15% more and pays that 15% to customs.

Yep, if NZ decides to follow what Australia currently does exactly. Then anything under $1000 will now come in without having to pay GST if the Online retailer does not charge/collect GST.
A few stores such as bhphoto and massdrop do not collect GST for Australia last time I checked.
However, basically all those chinese online stores such as banggood, aliexpress, joybuy etc charges GST along with Amazon.

  • Anyone used the Veon 40" tv? Is it any good as a second TV for the bedroom for eg.?

    • +1

for the price its a decent tv

    • Personally I think it's rubbish, the picture quality is bad and the sound is even worse. You get what you pay for, if you're going to get a TV, get a decent one while they're on sale. TCL is a good upgrade if you can stretch to that and they have Android smart TV. But if that's your budget then that's your budget, don't let me tell you how you spend your money :)

    • I bought a 50" 4k Veon a month ago. I wasnt really expecting much out of it but just wanted a TV in the guest room. At first it pretty awful out of the box but after some tinkering with the color settings, its actually quite decent. It doesn't have the smart TV features but that was solved by hooking a Roku ultra on it.
Currently I still think its a really good price if you need it as a 2nd TV. I mean sure, its obvious that the screen doesn't look as vibrant as my 4k 55" Samsung TV but I did pay $1100+ more for it than the Veon. The Veon's picture is OK, its nothing amazing but I find it acceptable. The only downside I found is that the speakers built in are horrible. I've got it hooked up to an amp + 2 bookshelf speakers currently for better sound.

  • FYI - just got JB Hifi to price match TWH's Spiderman PS4 price (in case you cannot wait until tomorrow).
