Looks like a great deal for this. Have been wanting to get one for a while and this is a good price for a 500gb version. $10 off for "new" members.

What do people use portable SSDs for anyway? Why go for speed over capacity for an external drive? Just curious
Much quicker transfer times, lighter and less fragile. More for moving things around often rather than archiving.
This thing is tiny, while bigger than a normal thumb drive , it is still way smaller than a normal external 2.5" drive. For my purpose, this is just a slightly larger thumb drive with screeds of data and superfast transfer speeds.
People have different needs — I bought the T5 from pbtech black friday. Made it into 2 partitions, one fat32 for a windows installation drive, and the other as NTFS for data. It is very fast, installs windows super quick…. working with large files is a breeze.
I use one while traveling.
It allows me to transfer photos from my camera's SD card to the drive, using just my phone. Thanks for the info guys, very informative
Not that I have a need for one but it would be great for travel. It won't die if you drop it.
Or even just regular life and a need for high capacity portable storage.
Does anyone use one of these for video editing? Does it make a big difference?
I don't use a portable SSD but an internal one makes a huge difference when used as a scratch disk. I would imagine an external on usb3 or better would still be a vast improvement
Hey mate, I edit with Final Cut Pro on a T3. It’s absolutely the best option in the market for editing off (I leave files in place on the T3), all media files load in an instant and it never makes a sound or heats up. Would highly recommend editing off this if upgrading the internal SSD on your computer is not an option.
Thanks. Just picked one up in store for $89. We can’t upgrade the internal hdd in our iMac unfortunately and this is the next best option
I've just installed this drive as my boot drive on my 27 inch iMac 5K with 1 TB fusion drive. The boot-up time isn't much quicker than the fusion drive but the big difference is opening up apps which can be 3 to 4 times faster. It's a remarkable little drive and never seems to get hot and is a great upgrade for a iMac.
'$10 Saving for a New Account' doesn't work as $99.99 is below $100, and shipping doesn't count
True, although you can use the code (MYNL16W10) instore also. You apparently just need to confirm you have a valid MyNL account.
Instore you could just add oral-b toothbrush heads 2-pack for $10 and then effectively get those free for a total of $99 etc.
In my case the guy said he couldn't add the code unless it was over $100 as the system wouldn't let him so my partner went looking for
the toothbrush heads. She came back and he was busy, so a trainee served her and somehow managed to add the $10 discount… Win!
It seems these might be shuckable if you have a laptop with an msata connection
