Both, if you ask nicely at the till.
I wouldn't be so sure. The app has changed now. You get a unique code. You can scan the QR code on their machines or give it to staff or at the drive thrus. I assume that when you use the kiosks, it's not going to give you the option to choose the winning deal, it will go by the unique code. So I wouldn't be surprised if their POS machines are now the same and go by the unique code. I mean I'm sure a manager could override, but it may no longer be the case of staff simply being kind or confused by the 'select winning deal' business.
BTW, be warned that if you and your mate are getting the same deal, it seems to be a bad idea to try and combine the orders at least on their kiosks. At least when I tried with the Monday fillet o fish deal, it recognises the second deal, but then somehow manages to make but deals become normal price. Deleting the 2nd one doesn't fix the first. In fact, if you delete both and another mate scans the deal, it still doesn't work. You have to kill the order and start over.
So McDonald's really is increasing the price of their specials then? The Big Mac small combo deal is normally $5!
Looks like it,$2 for hot sauce.
I rarely buy McDonald's other than with these deals and with the increased price I don't consider them worth it. (I don't think many people noticed, but they actually increased prices on these deals in January when they offered a cheeseburger small combo plus cheeseburger for $6 instead of the normal $5.)
But I decided to get today's Double Trouble/Double Cheeseburger small combo for $6. (I know that the single cheeseburger for $4.50 isn't far off since you can add an extra patty for $1.50.) A few observations:
You used to be able to upgrade the drink of the small combo app offers for 40 cents for regular or 80 cents for large. And you could also choose a frozen drink, small (no extra), medium (40c) or large (80c). This isn't possible with the kiosks. You can choose a hot chocolate, fuze peach ice tea or water bottle or soft drinks. Also I assume this is a normal thing, but you can add extra onions, ketchup, mustard, and pickles for free.
About the kiosks and offer redemption, my previous warning still stands. If you and your mate are getting the same offer, DO NOT try to add them to the same order. It kills both offers. And since they aren't even combos but separate items (burger, fries, drink) instead of $12 you'll be paying something like $22.40!
If you want to get multiple different offers, you also need to make multiple orders. E.g. trying to add the Fillet'o'fish for $3 offer or even the $3.50 for 6 Spicy Chicken McNuggets offer (which at my McDonald's isn't an app only deal since you can get the same thing on the menu) to the Double Trouble doesn't work. You'll be asked if you want to remove the existing offer when you try to add the 2nd offer. It doesn't explain, just says are you sure you want to remove X. And once you've scanned an offer it's invalidated even if you don't add it. So your second offer is gone if you don't remove the first.
Looks like only one of these will be available on the 10th of Feb.
