  • What is the situation with parcels from China?

    • +1

I've received zero deliveries and zero tracking updates since 5 March, so I'm assuming that about three weeks ago everything just stopped.
One company refunded my payment after a week because they couldn't send it. For the packages that are stuck halfway between there and here, I'll request refunds as soon as I'm allowed to.
This is all without considering how few NZ Customs staff will or won't be working these days to clear parcels, or whether Chinese parcels will be treated as hazardous, or if they'll be deprioritized for weeks/months as non-essential.

Really it's the worst possible time to order stuff from China.

      • I ordered some items on 17 March and I have two packages (of about 5) that arrived in the past 4 days - which is pretty quick by AliExpress standards! Other ones are still in transit, but they appear to be moving still.

        • Thanks for the comments, I am trying to figure out if it is a dispatch issue or logistics (or both). It might be worth paying a bit extra to ship via DHL for example, rather than use the base rate of freight.

@GWagon: Received 2 packages the last 2 working days. Received one last week too. No issues so far. Free shipping on slow post and only purchased 3 weeks ago at most.

            • @Devolution: Thanks mate, are you able to identify exactly where in China it came from? Hong Kong and Taiwan, I think are fine. Mainland China I think is screwed.

    • I ordered some small items (travel power adaptors, monitor display adaptors) on March 1 and they got here in a reasonable amount of time.

      Here's the status:

Due to widespread flight cancellations, huge amount of air mails are hold at China Post processing center.

China Post is working on a plan to send air mail via container ship (to Japan/Korea/North America/Oceania) and train (to Russia and Europe).

  • ANS7 has already been expired.

  • Thanks, I used halo328 just now for $2 USD off. Didn't have enough I wanted to hit $100 USD, and the $50 USD coupon already expired. It helps to cancel out the GST i guess.

  • Logistics is down from China to NZ for general public , it's going to take many months for parcel to come into NZ and get cleared

    • Do you have a source for this? I've only heard rumours with not official source.

      • yes please share.

        • I know it is listed on NZ Post, that mail TO China is stuffed. So the reverse is likely to be correct also.

I've received two packages in the past 4 days (ie. after lockdown began), ordered less than 2 weeks ago ago, so no trouble for at least some packages. This could be NZ Post clearing the backlog, but as far as I can tell other packages I ordered which are still in transit are still moving.

Having said that, as a precaution I'm treating every package as potentially contaminated and disinfecting. They've been through probably a dozen or more hands from manufacturer/warehouse in China to my doorstep, and while there's a little data on how long the virus lasts on metal and hard surfaces, I haven't found anything about surfaces like paper boxes or polythene courier bags! Taking no chances.

max 3 days survival. you're more likely to get covid-19 locally than via a package.

    • You're actually more likely to get COVID-19 from packages arriving from the US or Australia. People have already tested positive in 10 Amazon warehouses across the US, and unlike in China the pickers and handlers don't wear masks.

  • Wrong thread perhaps - but what about online purchases from Amazon US? Is it business as usual for orders fulfilled by Amazon?

    • Doesnt look like it given no pricing is from the Amazon warehouse on their website

  • Got one of my parcel delivered today. (Not an essential item, guess they are still delivering all the intl parcels) The logistics is not down and stop spreading fake news pls.

    • I think maybe they’re just getting the backlog through and no new deliveries.

      • It arrived in NZ after the lockdown. So I assume they are still processing the new deliveries? Just my opinion

    • NZPost / Courier Post is not differentiating between essential and non-essential items.

      • Weird. Maybe they are for domestic parcels, cause I wasn’t allowed to ship an item I sold on trademe.

I thought trade me suspended selling of items while under lock down?

  • My daughter ordered from Ali but can't remember when but her parcel arrived today too.
