Haha still such an expensive phone šŸ˜‚

  • +3

Pretty sure that should be 256GB not 265

    • Yeah sorry I copied and pasted directly from market place and didnā€™t spot that. Will correct now. :)

This is the new generation iPhone SE (2020) that was launched about 2 weeks ago.

its a deal site not an opinion site. if you have a cheaper deal for same product link it

As an Android user (Pixel 3A) I have to admit this is one good deal for an iOS device. other than the screen with its huge bezel the rest of the spec is serviable for the price and I wouldn't hestitate to buy it if an Android manufacturer makes an equivalent device (Pixel 3A is close but the build quality, lack of IP rating and wireless charging makes it slightly inferior)

  • One of these (64GB model) costs about $650NZ in the US.

I would be genuinely interested in seeing how I could purchase the base model for that price including any tariffs, import taxes or shipping and is unlocked.

      Iā€™ve searched but couldnā€™t find anything .

      • get someone who still does intl travel to buy it for you duty-free? Should be under $700

        • +4

Iā€™m not sure what circles youā€™re moving in but I suspect less than 0.1% of usq I know anyone who ā€œstill does intl travel.ā€ Like your optimism though! :-D

@NzShane: That comment is so two months ago :)

Around $700NZ with most states tax +international freight you are looking $750ish assuming you don't get hit with GST… much better deal to buy locally with CGA

    Don't forget 3.5% cashback from https://www.kiwiwallet.co.nz

    • +4

Cash backs arenā€™t honoured by them. Seems like a scam.

      • +1

Same goes for ShopRewards, credit still "pending" despite numerious promise the issue has been resolved.

        • +1

I have been using https://www.shopback.com.au and all the cashbacks were on track. I did withdraw to Paypal account and transfer to NZ bank successfully.
Just started to use kiwiwallet for Themarket since they offer slightly higher percentage 3.5% vs shopback 3%. Will see how it goes.

The 64GB base model is RRP $799. I'm watching to see if they bring that model onto The Market before the voucher expires!

    • +1

Same here to be honest. They only ever seem to have limited Apple offerings on market place unfortunately but hereā€™s hoping!

      • +1

The 128GB is in stock now for $899, but I'm still waiting for the 64. My current 7 only has 34GB used so 128 is probably overkill.

        • +1

Thanks for the update. Tempting at $850

Might see if there is anything else I need from market place around the $100 mare to apply the $100 off voucher.

@NzShane: I think the 128mode is the best one in terms of price vs features, and how long it should last for. My only issue with this phone is battery life, and long term battery life. My only issue with the older form factor iphones, is I can't get much more than a year out of the battery before it is down to a level where it keeps shutting down prematurely and have to throttle back the performance, which means the battery has to be replaced. I understand the new 11 has a big and better battery life. So I would factor in having to replace the battery at least one into the life price. I also own an android, and both iphones and android both have their pros and cons. But apple wins in terms of how long the device should last for, based on how long they provide software updates for it. I would never pay more for an android, than I would for an iphone due to this. This is basically a gateway phone for android users, to get them onto ios, which is one reason why it is a good price. Also touch ID is far better IMO than face ID, especially if having to wear a mask going forward.

Itā€™s actually an iPhone 11 in an old iPhone body. I know Android owners wonā€™t understand but each to their own.

      Sent from my iPhone.

Like Ahmad said, this is a top of the line phone with the expensive edge-to-edge screen ripped out. It's going to be supported and usable for at least 5 years. You're not going to get that kind of life out of a $200 throwaway phone. TCO is much lower with the iPhone. You don't have to buy into that if you don't want to, but maybe try being less judgemental of people who make different decisions than youā€¦ lol

      • Lol as if ā€œSent from my iPhoneā€ was not obvious enough.

    • Just saw this video today and it immediately reminded of this thread and I just had to share. MKBHD is probably one of the top tech reviewers on Youtube today.

I really donā€™t really understand why people feel the need to get so preachy on iPhone posts here.

Like someone mentioned above this is a deal site not a review site. Why feel the need to tell people how dumb they are for considering this product at this price?

Also for anyone considering buying an iphone with activation locked Issues on trade me the reason they sell for buttons is because you will only ever be able to get back limited at best functionality. Basically you will be able to just about browse the web on your device, not much more. Anyone telling you they can bypass the activation lock completely is a scam artist.

After researching this phone pretty extensively, I feel itā€™s the right choice for me. Does that mean it will suit everyone, probably not but I trust people are smart enough to decide for themselves.

    • -1

You can definitely bypass the activation lock. And how is it scamming if you're not providing a service? I bought an iPhone that I thought was a good deal, then couldn't bypass the activation initially and thought I got scammed. Then I eventually bypassed it. Full working mode. A similar thing can be done on Android as well, just need to spoof the IMEI.
