  • Dual-core Atom plus TN or 720p displays, the ideal combination to really bring back the feeling of being incredibly frustrated using a computer.

    • Come on the Gemini lake celeron chips ain’t that bad for chrome os. (Currently using quad core version for windows 10)

      • The quad core ones are both higher clocked AND twice the physical cores.

Windows 10 is definitely heavier, but not more than 100% heavier than modern Gnome/Cinnamon etc (I dual boot with Mint, with Mint as my primary OS).

Better off getting a used Haswell Dell Latitude or HP Elitebook for $250 on TradeMe and putting whatever OS you want on there and a fully fledged SSD.

And no matter how light the OS is, the modern internet still suffers with a slow single thread because it's all JavaScript.

        • should be similar to the ARM based ones?

          • @Zyo: Exactly.

            Terrible.

I would wish one on my worst enemy if we had to compete in something computer related.

        • ChromeOS is actually pretty light, lighter than a gnome based build in my experience. But I'll agree with you a second hand haswell is better bang for you buck for pure performance. But the this deal is still not bad if you want brand new, need decent battery life, want a touchscreen(for the more expensive one) and ChromeOS is fit your expected usage(to be honest for most people whom primarily use a computer for internet usage and the occasional document/spreadsheet, it's just fine). Plus if it's part of your school curriculum even better. From an admin pov Chromebooks do make it easy.

  • How does the c340 compare to the 300e or 500e?
Doesn’t look as rugged for education?

And why did Lenovo get rid of the lead pencil feature on the 300e :)

    • Newer version of the same thing but x86. Experience should be identical.
