Coffee Beans - Where Do You Buy Yours?

There have been a couple deals lately for coffee beans. Thought i'd put this question out there to see where everyone gets their coffee beans. Looking at either current good deals with a discount code, or decent regular prices without any discount. And factor in shipping costs too :)

I'll start. I buy 2kg at a time (x2 1kg bags) of the Aristo from Everest Coffee for $56.98 incl shipping. Current code of 2ARISTO gets you $5 off when you buy two Aristo products. Good bean - full flavour, rich crema. Link: https://www.everestcoffee.co.nz/collections/roasted-coffee/p….

Someone will probably tell me off for this as it's contentious, but I freeze one bag and keep the other bag vaccuum sealed and top up the grinder as needed. Haven't noticed any real degradation in flavour profile from the frozen bag, none that bothers me anyway. We tend to go through 500gm a week so this has been the most cost effective for us. Conscious of not using old beans but a lot of these coffee subscriptions around are comparatively so expensive. It can be a gamble!

Thanks

Bumping/Following. I usually buy supreme from paknsave but looking to buy something more sustainable and decent quality without breaking the bank :)

Thanks, Wrattboi! I might as well add a few more options until others hopefully come along:

      • King Coffee do 1kg of beans from $26 + delivery (which is $6 for me). Here is the cheapest bean. They also have a presence on TradeMe too.

      • HomeBaristaShop (based in Tauranga) do 1kg from $30 and then free shipping over $36. Available here. They also have a TradeMe shop.

      • My Espresso do 1kg from $34.45 incl shipping here.

      • InCafe do 1kg from $35 with free shipping on their website here.

      • Monsoon Coffee do 1kg from $34 with free shipping on their website here. I don't know if the free shipping is temporary or a standard offering.

      • Grounded & Co. do 1.2kg (in 1 carton of 6 bags) for $42 with free shipping here

I will keep adding more as I find them/try them!

I'll go after a deal to expand my coffee range, but I care about taste quite a bit.

Hawthorne probably my favourite. Not as cheap though
    - 1KG delivered for $44.50. Comes in a paper bag and you can smell it in your mailbox.
    - The posties get jealous when they drop it off.

You can get 1kg from Raglan Roast for $36 delivered.
    - They're quite popular in Hamilton. Delivery might be free because I'm only 40 minutes away from Rags.

@ TheDealMan, what's your favourite tasting coffee out of all the options you've listed?

    • Fair call! I'm relatively new to the espresso game (just picked up a single boiler machine and grinder not too long ago) so finding my way :)

Thanks for your recommendations! I have heard plenty of good things about Raglan Roast in particular so will definitely give it a go.
I didn't appreciate that it was relatively cheap as well. Looks like shipping is a few dollars for be but still very reasonable.

The ones I have tried are:
      * Everest Aristo (see below)
      * HomeBaristaShop Gourmet Espresso Blend (really good - full flavour, rich)
      * InCafe - all of them. I grabbed 200g bags of all blends (not much of a fan. Quite weak and didn't seem all too fresh)
      * Grounded & Co. #Time2Shine (a fine brew, rich and balanced)

The rest are on my list to try next.

Despite it being the cheapest, the Everest Aristo has been my favourite and I can highly recommend it. Strong and distinct in flavour, a lot of crema, wine-y tastes and notes of chocolate and caramel. If you were going to trial any of the ones I've listed it'd be this one - here is a link to buy a single bag on TradeMe too if you wanted. It has also consistently been the freshest. Once of my biggest gripes so far has been ordering supposedly fresh coffee, that you can clearly tell is a few weeks old.

There are a couple more on my list to try but I neglected to list them above:
https://devilscup.co.nz/ - a little roastery in Patea selling organic fairtrade coffee.
https://kawatiri.coffee/ - a little roastery in Wesport who fire roast their beans. They are also organic fairtrade.

Doing better than me re: coffee gear. Just me and my plunger. Been getting lazy too, buying plunger mix rather than whole coffee beans. Have been meaning to buy a coffee percolator though.

        • I'll give Everest a try, thank you. Think I've seen it at New World.

    personal taste:

kawatitri coffee is delicious and the owner is a good sort. they do dark roasts to second crack so works great for espresso. i cant recall the blend name but i recall very distinct chocolatey, nutty, caramel notes in one instance and on a separate occasion aromatic and berry, fruity notes.

lyttelton coffee company also does some good stuff. both single origin and blend. the roasts vary in depth, so something should correspond to your brew style.

hummingbird is quite delicious too, again a big range. i tend to go for the oomph blend.

c4 coffee is also delicious and do a range of roasts.

my mate gets his sent in from vanuatu. a place called tanna coffee. he reckons it is ethical to do that so if you like the flavour of justice then thats cool too

I buy direct from Havana. $45 to the door for 1Kg of beans in a foil bag. Been trying all the different beans that they don't sell to the shops. East Timor is the business. Quick shipping too.
First time I ordered there was a mix up and the beans went to the wrong address. Without me even contacting them, they sent another bag to cover me until the other one showed up, so I ended with with 2 x 1Kg bags. If that's not customer service, I don't know what is.

FYI not linked to or affiliated with Havana in any way I just love their shit.
