This deal is only for people who are already subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate and want to get another 4 months or more for half price. If you're not a GPU subscriber there are cheaper options than this deal which I'll list in the comment section, and remember, Google is your friend.
EA Play is coming to Game Pass Ultimate Nov 10, and on that day if you have both GPU and EA Play subscriptions then MS will automatically convert any of your remaining EA Play subscription to GPU at a ratio of 3:1, so if you have 50 days left you'll get one month of GPU, between 4-6 months you get 2 months etc.

$39.99 for a 12 months EA Play sub will convert to 4 months of GPU no matter if you start it now or on Nov 9, so might as well buy it now and start playing some Peggle 2!
Things to note
you can buy 12 month EA Play gift cards to stack up to 3 years of EA Play giving you 12 months of GPU when it converts. *this has been confirmed on Twitter by EU Xbox head of marketing Samuel Bateman. - thanks Everretpsycho for letting me know about this in the comments.
EA Play gift cards are available from NZ retailers for $40 or from sites like CDKeys for cheaper (the codes are not region locked so buy them from whoever has the cheapest)
if you're an EA Play subscriber but not a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber then nothing will change for you, you won't be forced to convert to GPU.
So for people that aren't Game Pass Ultimate subscribers this is what you do.
For $1 Microsoft will convert your Live Gold or Game Pass subscription to Ultimate at a 1:1 ratio, so stack up 3 years of Gold or Gamepass (whatever's cheaper, probably Gold) then pay the $1 and convert it.
For NZ prices it will work out $270 for 3 years of Live Gold that will convert to 3 years of Game Pass Ultimate that would normally cost you $720.
If you don't mind using a VPN and buying Live Gold gift cards from places like CDkeys and Electronic First you can save even more money by topping up your Live Gold subscription from the Brazil store, currently a 12 month Live Gold gift card will set you back around $60 but they've been on special quite a few times this year for as low as $40. I bought 2 years from them to stack on top of the one year I purchased in NZ before doing the $1 deal and converting it to Ultimate, good saving.
