Buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab from Amazon US

I'm in the market for a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. The cheapest is $549 according to Pricespy:

Meanwhile, I can buy it off Amazon US for $272 USD (approx $410 NZD) delivered, including NZ GST withheld..

Any downsides to buying from Amazon other than possible warranty issues? It's a Wi-Fi model so no network issues.

  • Good luck if it breaks. And you might want to take import taxes into account.

    • +1 to this, years ago I bought a Nexus 4 from the US only to have it fail on me in 8 months… with no real recourse except to send back to the states and wait months for return shipping. That experience burned me with buying this sort of hardware, sometimes it's better to just pay a little bit extra for peace of mind.

Not sure what you guys are up to tbh.. but you need to work Amazon support better, they are generally awesome and will do everything they can to assist. I've had hardware fail in the past and a 5-minute chat to Amazon support, a sob story about my dying dog and long shipping times to return and on two occasions they have just sent me a replacement or complete refund no questions asked. They obviously want the unit returned as part of it but that's no issue when I'm not waiting on the replacement. This is all assuming you are shipping directly from Amazon to NZ, however, if you start going the ship forwarding route you won't have as much joy.

YMMV with companies other than Amazon.

        • Fair enough, my experience was from ~2011 ordering direct from Google. Only way I could get a replacement was to ship it back, have it checked then sent back to me.

Since then I've avoided buying tech hardware online overseas, so I suppose I should have noted that my experience is quite old lol

    • Import taxes?

      • As far as I know its just GST collected on the purchase price. Customs has a duty estimator on their website and when I filled it out it showed only GST to pay.

        Also, username checks out.

  • Pretty sure Amazon calculate import duty?
    Amazon are good for returns.

    You just lose the CGA.

  • I deal in electronics and repairs price on latest items is sky high especially samsung brand. I don't import unless there is 50% margins because you have to take in account repair costs if something goes wrong. So it's a risk you have to account, on the hand amazon and ebay are best for cable, accessories, cases etc.
