Stuff Fibre - contract extension price

I signed up with Stuff fibre almost one year ago with really good deal as $39.98 for 6 months, then $79.95 for the remaining 6 months.
Today I contacted with Stuff asking the price for extension another 1 year contract. They tell me the price will be $80 per month with no deal at all.
Although they are still offer the same deal if using the referral code from Cheapies. But as they told me, the deal only apply to new customer not to me as I am an old customer.

Can anyone tell me if you successfully extend your contract with Stuff in the discount price?

Cheers!

Thank you for your reply. It is my second option if Stuff don't allow me to extend my contract on a discount price. Just don't understand why they don't want to keep old customer. They should know there are plenty competitors who offer discount price for customers. Cheers bro!

  • I would find a better deal elsewhere - doesn't really matter who or what that deal is, just so you already know you have a better offer that you would go with if Stuff refuse to play ball.

Then call them and ask what you need to do to cancel and move to another provider.

If they have a retention team, you should get transferred to them, and see what they can do. If the offer is not great, ask if that's their best offer, then say you'll want to look around to see if anyone else has the capability of doing a better deal.

Good luck, and please do post back here with the response(s) you get from Stuff and anyone else.

    Alan.

  • This is standard for almost every NZ ISP that they won't renew with as good an offer as a new customer deal.

If lowest cost possible is a big deal to you then you need to keep signing up via the new customer deals with other companies(use a site like glimp or broadbandcompare to find the best deal). Orcon have a 12 month 100/20 deal which is $40 more for the 12mo term than Stuff.

  • Can you just sign up as a new customer using a new email address? You would have to give notice on your old account.

  • When I rolled off my first 12 month plan (done through broadband compare if I recall correctly), I managed to fix again directly for another 12 months with the first 4 months discounted (as was currently on offer) with no issue. It may have been because I was upgrading to their faster boost product second time around so perhaps treated as a different plan/customer. I also told them that I was thinking of moving to another provider offering a streaming entertainment bundle, not sure if that made any difference though.

  • You've fulfilled your contract with them so you need to cancel or threaten to cancel to get them to budge. You need to be technically disconnected from them to become a new customer again and they will try call your bluff. Maybe try one of those non-contract providers for a couple months and then see if they will take you back on same deal?

  • Very common for providers to offer inducements for New customers and ignore their existing ones.

Something that has worked for us is to use your partner. When term expires get the other person to sign up as a newbie. In 12 months you will be a new customer again.

  • Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I'm willing to continue with my ISP (also stuff fibre) once my 12 contract is over, seeing as they gave me that initial deal for 6 months. I try to be a bit more loyal to my local cafes and businesses these days.

    • Hi there, it is what I am expecting. I also wanna extend my contract with them after the 1st year. I was wondering how to get them agree with the plan - $39.98 for 6 months, then $79.95 for the remaining 6 months. Do you mind to share your experience? Cheers, bro.

I think nzlotrfan is saying that s/he is happy to pay the full $80 a month after 1st year contract expires, not chasing the best deal.

Most of ISP's have a retention team. If you threaten to leave and say you have found a bitter deal, they will either save you with a good deal or let you go. My recommendation is if they let you go give 30 days notice which all ISPs have. With stuff fibre if you leave you have to return the modem which they will provide a prepaid return courier bag otherwise you will be charged $90 for the modem as per terms and conditions.

    • They don't always ask for the modem / router back. I suspect it relates to how old it is though - 12 months perhaps they will always enforce it.

Would be interesting to know :-)

  • Just go with slingshot best deals

  • Whenever my contract is up I always contact the ISP and ask what deal they'll offer if I sign up with them again for another 12 months, if they don't offer a deal then I jump ship to another provider.

I was with 2degrees for a few years but early this year when my current contract was up with them I contacted them about what deal they'd offer if I signed up for another 12 months and they said they'd call back, which they never did, I also emailed them asking but didn't get a reply so I jumped ship to NOW Internet who at the time were doing 6 months half price for new customers. I just contacted them the other day seeing as my 6 months half price was up and I was now paying $85/month for 100/20 fibre and wanted to see if I could upgrade to 900/400 seeing as it was only $15/month more, they said "no problem" then the girl said that my contract with them was ending early next year so she'd make a note to make sure someone contacted me to see if I wanted to sign for another 12 months, and if I did they could offer me 900/400 for just over $80/month. Pretty awesome service really getting offered a deal without having to even ask for it!

  • I jumped on live chat in November last year and asked them to hook me up with the deal they were doing at the time - 4 months free . Was my second year with them . Lady done it straight away
