Humble are currently offering a deal of their Humble Choice Premium for NZ$152.99 or US$99. (Humble now charge in NZD if they detect you are in NZ.) This was originally for new subscribers, but they are now letting you get the same deal with gift subscriptions. There is a slight chance this is targeted but I haven't seen anyone report it's not offered to them and the new subscribers deal is for everyone.
Humble explicitly let you redeem gift subscriptions on you own account. https://support.humblebundle.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036684… Further for those of us on the Classic plan, you can redeem a Premium (or Basic) gift and it just adds Classic credits. (These normally cost more than classic.) So you save US$33 over the normal price for Classic. (Way more for Premium.)
I've done it and confirmed it worked with classic plan. See here for others https://www.reddit.com/r/humblebundles/comments/k2nmjq/here_…
Note that if you are an existing subscriber, you will need to click on the link for this post or otherwise a gift specific link. If you go from the main Humble page, the page just looks like it's loading continuously.
If you're just buying a regular new subscription and not doing anything questionable, you can probably use a referral link. (Referrals don't apply to gifts so there's no need to manually add one.) If you're buying a regular subscription rather than a gift, note that it will automatically renew when you run out of credits. Make sure you remove this if you don't want it to happen. (This doesn't happen with gifts although if you are an existing subscriber you may already have automatic payment set-up.)
You should still be able to pause if you don't want a month. Just remember pausing only lasts a month so you need to do it every month you want to pause. You also need to do it before you "pay" for the month which is about a week before the end of the month or instantly if you make a selection. (You "pay" via credits if you have an annual plan with remaining months.)
BTW, existing subscribers are also supposed to get one extra month for gifting. There's no sign of this so far, but they've already "paid" for this month so it is probably next month. There's a possibly they will exclude it for people to redeem the gift themselves but that seems complicated since you could wait to redeem or swap with friends.
I don't recommend trying to add it to another account that belongs to you. For starters you automatically redeem the current month so you need to make sure you do it right. Also while Humble don't explicitly disallow multiple accounts, they have cracked down on abuse with them e.g. self-referrals.
I've targeted this post at existing subscribers since Humble are always offering deals for new subscribers.
But for those who don't know, Humble Choice is a subscription service where you get a choice of X games from a list of Y games. Most of the games come in the form of Steam codes. For Premium X is 9, for Classic X is 10. Although several times now it's been all for both Premium and Classic. Y has generally been 12 in recent months.
I suggest you look at previous months to see if it may be of interest to you. Humble abandoned the loot box concept when they moved to Choice so you get to see what the choices are and can choose to pause if you don't find the choices for that month interesting. As I said above, you do need to pause before you "pay" for the month. (You have about 20 days to pause.)
Classic subscribers are those who have an ongoing subscription from the time of Humble Monthly before it changed into Humble Choice. Such subscribers were able to pause any or all months. But if they cancel their subscription they lose Classic. If you aren't already Classic, you can't get on it now unfortunately.
All subscribers who aren't paused also get access to the Humble Trove which is a bunch of DRM free games, and up to 20% off games on the Humble Store.
