  • Is this targeted or for all?

      It's not targeted for once

      • Not targeted, saw this on a Youtube ad.

    Finally I've been waiting

TradeMe priced themselves out for me and I have started using FB market place. Never looked back after that.
PS: FB market place got plenty of bad apples. It is good to do some research into the buyers/sellers social profile before engaging with them.

FB marketplace search leaves some to be desired.it seems they barely have a category system

FB: Would you accept $5 and a box of beer for the $3,000 item you're selling?

TM: Hi I just used the buy now and won your auction. It says pickup only but I'm going to need you to deliver it to the other island at your cost tomorrow.

They're definitely way too expensive but the security is worth it nothing but bad experiences with Marketplace.

I would never trust FB for stuff worth a few hundred or cars etc, so many people get robbed by people with fake profiles

i use marketplace more than trademe, the amount of deals ive scored is crazy also hate selling on trademe because of the fees, ive only had a couple of bad sales out of hundreds of great ones i sell my crap all the time and people ask me to post (this is how people get ripped off by some undesirables) but usually never have issues. i also scope out the buyers or sellers page before making a trade

oh they lacking business again lol

Yeah FB market shows that people are ready for a cheaper competitior to Trademe.
Just needs to be easy intuitive app based system

  • Correction it's for Saturday not Friday.

  • Sadly AllGoods has recently shut down. Altho they were still miles away from TM's dominance, IMO they showed the most potential to become a worthy TM rival. Another RIP website.

    • I think the problem is that every would-be competitor simply marches in, completely rips off TradeMe's website and expects people to flood in through their doors because they don't have any fees. There's no point of difference to their approach, and no attempt to build a userbase of their own.

TradeMe's success came from spending years in the market, and their appeal is the massive community that they've established. Somehow these other sites think they can take something like that down just by existing. It's sheer idiocy.

      • Actually trade me started it was a community thing and sold to the community as a community thing and then we got sold out to the corporate world and as with such a large monopoly it should be regulated .A lot of these companies like Google and Amazon and social media giants should be treated like utilities now and be regulated. You could say it's the free market but in reality these companies and turned into a dictatorship.

      • I agree, any rival will need time and some serious $$ investment to make a dent. I was hoping the general public's hatred at TM will somehow assist AllGood's rise. A global pandemic did not help things either.

  • so confused by this, do you have to list at $1 reserve which incurs a 25c fee or just list starting price as a dollar..

    • List the starting price as $1

      • surely you have to have a $1 reserve, that's what the whole promotion is about. Not sure why you're getting charged 25c jackvdbuk, listings are free unless you pay for the additional promotion.

        • +1

There's a start price and an optional reserve price field, using the latter is what incurs the 25c fee. If you don't enter a specific reserve then your start price acts as your auction's reserve
