  • This a a pretty decent printer, super simple to set up and decent printing speed especially for $18

  • How much does it cost to replenish the ink though…

    • Normally cheaper to buy a whole new printer @$18 lol. Alternatively order ink through aliexpress.

This is what's wrong with the world, how is it cheaper to buy a printer with ink than just ink😂

I get it that it's cheap to get you in the door and the ink is the money maker. But there really should be something to stop all the ewaste this practice creates. Then again the something will probably be not give you any ink with the printers.

    • One of the few printers left that you can override the chips by just holding two buttons and resetting PIXMA HOME OFFICE TR7560 , 3000 pages printed including colour photos $30ink from trademe using the same cartridges .

      • What do you override the chip for mate?

        • Virtually all print cartridges have chips and within those chips programmed counters and not necessarily the ink levels rather pages printed.Once the printer gets the information from the chip it no longer recognises the cartridge.TheTR7560 is one of the few printers you can override this.

          • @pdevonporf: Brother printers do it as well.

            • +1

@Wakrak: Yes all my old printers used to be brother printers until they put chips on them.I've still got my Brother multifunction A3 printer and I've had that for about seven years and I've never had to buy a cartridge.

      • Can you link the trademe seller who you got the ink from?

      • Could you please post a photo showing which buttons to press? I bought 5 cartridges from trademe for $65, have printed about a dozen pages max, and now the 3 colours (other than the 2 black) are already at "low" level.

        • Any bulk ink will do doesn't matter what brand, this is one example https://tinyurl.com/yajzl637 I reset the printer for each cartridge only once as they became empty by holding the stop button down for about five seconds I think(I did this two years ago).To refill each cartridge that came with the printer you just dribble ink onto the foam pad until it stops absorbing it.Also the printer comes with two black and I just full both of them up the same.I brought another new TR7560 for about $20 when they're on special and had a cashback few months ago and have that in the shed waiting for this one to stop one day.

          • @pdevonporf: Thanks. So it seems that I need to buy more ink now; the 3 of the 5 third-party cartridges that I bought are irreparable? I had hoped I'd get 600, not a dozen, pages out of them. Why does the printer chew threw the ink so quickly?

            • @sunshinenz: A couple of things, the ink cartridges could be rubbish and you been conned. The chips in the cartridge could be giving a false reading to the printer if there's still Ink in them.I think I got about 200 pages out of those demonstrator ones that came with it, which are the ones I still use.Why can't you just refill the third-party Cartridges as I explained. They still should work with new ink .The other thing you must do is make sure you don't actually run out of ink as the cartridges have no indicator any more or warning on the printer after you reset it.To fix that problem all you have to do a nozzle clean a number of times and that will pump the new ink through, but it's easier just to keep topping up the Cartridges once a month or so.The Original cartridges that came with the printer I get around 300 pages per full roughly depending on text or photos.

              • @pdevonporf: Thanks. The sample cartridges lasted me a year, probably about 30 pages or so. I guess it's because I only use this printer for printing colour photos (eg. for lost and found notices), so coverage is more like 50% instead of 5%. I have a laser printer which I use for printing documents, a $35 third-party cartridge lasts me about 5 years.

Instead of buying more ink, I'd just buy 10 of these, and when the ink runs out, just sell the printer for $15 on Facebook.

You'd be lucky to get a dollar. Entry level inkjets aren't worth anything

      • Absolutely right, trying to sell them on trademe/Facebook is difficult because postage can be higher than the price of a new one .I've sold a few $200/$300 printers on trade me and I find them very difficult to shift and only worth it if you've got a good margin.

  • I wouldn't buy an inkjet even if it's as cheap as this. Laser is just so much better and I'd rather do photo printing at a kiosk.

  • Well the $18 printer turned up today, and it's not too bad. Definitely built to a price, very light construction but seems to work fine. Probably won't replace our mono laser for documents, but for the odd photo it will be real handy. I think I'm more excited about the scanner/copier function actually.
