Samsung 870 EVO 1TB SSD (Sata 3) $189 + Shipping @ Computer Lounge

10

Decent price for the new generation of Samsung Sata 3 1TB SSD (Not the cheapest according to Priceme). There are cheaper NVMe SSDs available these days but this is for those of you stuck with a motherboard that only supports Sata 3 drives.

Discount

PB Tech is selling these at $208 even with their Overstock "sale".

Pricespy doesn't seem to have pricing data on this yet. Priceme says it's been slightly cheaper but I'm not sure of the exact cost since their graphs aren't very dynamic.

Shipping costs: Haven't included shipping price in the title as I believe it'll be different across the country but if you're shipping within Auckland, it's $3.90.

  • Did anyone here tried to use PCIE adapter for NVMe SSDs on old desktops, did they work? If they worked, are they reliable and still remain the same speeds?

Yes, I have. I picked up a simple adapter from PBTech (StarTech x4 PCI Express to M.2 PCIe SSD Adapter) and it works well. Since it's extremely simple (just passing PCIE lanes through), I'd expect it to be very reliable. This model passes through 4 lanes and gets full speed out of the drive.

I should say - I'm just using it as an extra drive - if you want to boot from the drive that may be a different story - you'd probably need a BIOS that supports it. Not sure what the story is there.

Forgot to say - I've also done the same with a PCIE to U.2 (2.5" drive) adapter and that works fine too.

        • Thanks mate, I guess I will stick with normal SSD and save my money until I get a new PC.

Did you have a method or coupon for waiving the $20.99 international shipping cost to NZ and the cost of a warranty return if necessary?

It seems these might add up to more than buying the above from Computer Lounge, would love to know your experience. Have you bought from TechInn to NZ before, and did you get charged any fees by Customs?
