    • You would be right, but if you can find an unregistered (i.e newly imported) Leaf for $10k or less, ask why. It is probably not worth the money. A basic 2013 or newer i.e. Gen 2 Leaf, with 100k on the clock and a battery with a SOH of 70% (which is the lowest you should even be considering) costs $13,000 or more. Caveat Emptor.

    • I thought it was $3450 on used cars imported to NZ

Yeah as long as they have not had a previous registration in NZ and comply with the reauirements (3star + safety rating etc) you can claim the rebate once you have either imported or purchased the car from the dealer.

  • Tesla might get creative with software-limiting the battery pack range (selling Long Range as Short Range at a much lower price via software lock) to ensure they maximise sales in NZ. They've done it before in other markets to help bring the cost of the vehicle within the threshold for a rebate.

If you are considering pulling the trigger, use the Referral Link Generator at the top of this page. It randomly selects a referral code from other registered Cheapies members (looks like there is three of us so far).

Oddly the links redirect you to the US website, so you'll need to navigate your way to the NZ site from there before you configure and place your order. If you don't you won't qualify for the free credits. Also, there is no way to add it later.. Tesla are pretty strict about this.

Although I missed out on the credit (x2) I am super stoked for everyone else who now have an incentive to go EV (Tesla or other).

Once you get used to leaving your home with a 'full tank of gas' every morning it is super hard to go back to filling up at gas stations!

  • any cheapie here pulled the trigger yet?
seems the incentive has certainly increased the number of searches!
