I think the title is a bit misleading, it's not for existing customers it's for customers who have let their sub lapse, which is nothing new this has always been the case with GPU there's just a stand down period between your sub ending and you being able to take advantage of the $1 deal to resub again. So unless I'm wrong and MS have done something special for the Xbox anniversary and reduced the stand down periods then this deal won't be offered to everyone, if your sub ended a couple of weeks ago you probably won't be offered the $1 deal for another 4-6 weeks or more, but if it ended more than 3 months ago then you'll probably be offered it when you click the link. Easy workaround is to create a new user on your Xbox and get the $1 deal with that, all games between users are shared on your console so download the gamepass games with your new account and play them on your main.

If you think you will use gamepass for a while and don't currently have an ultimate subscription I would seriously consider stacking 3 years of Xbox live gold (without the extra auto renewal months) and then taking this offer. Doing that will mean for the price of the Xbox live gold you will get up to 39 months of gamepass ultimate for much cheaper.
Depends what you are willing to risk but using a VPN cdkeys has Brazilian codes for $55, so that's 3 years of gamepass for under $5 a month.

You can do that it just becomes a bit of a balancing act on the account front then needing you to set your Xbox to your home console. If you want to use it in a PC it sounds like it gets even trickier and I don't think you could do cloud saves easily using this approach. I favoured the $5 a month option as it was just set it up and let it run on my pc and Xbox. They can't pull the sub with the months converted like they can stop doing these offers
Also worth doing the Xbox rewards quests if you can find a few minutes a day to just open games. I've got about 7 months of gamepass on top of the three years doing these with relatively little effort. It's still a shame rewards is pretty terrible here compared to overseas, I've seen people on UK forums earning enough a month to pay for their gamepass and put them towards good savings on the series X just by doing bing searches and opening games.
