Also another option if your willing to spend an extra $125 ($1,355.99) would be the G5 SE https://www.dell.com/en-nz/shop/gaming-and-games/dell-g5-15-… for double the storage at 512 GB, 2 extra cores / 4 extra threads with the 4600H (And arguably better 7nm ryzen architecture over 14nm intel 10th gen), and a much faster GPU with the RX 5600m which more in line with GTX 1660 ti https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raAKFyKMR8A build looks to be a bit worse on the G5 SE but still good enough given the the extra performance you are getting for the price

Been Considering that Dell 2in1 for my dad, the old LoveKeanu code brought that one down to $1300ish with the 4 year protection plan free. Unfortunately code no longer works :(

      Don't get a consumer laptop.

Consumer laptops are trash. Unreliable, hard/expensive to fix, small batteries, warranty failures put you out for weeks, difficult to upgrade.

No one ever moves to business laptops then even casts a second glance at a consumer model.

New business laptops are expensive, but you can get used business laptops for dirt cheap (TradeMe, Facebook, resellers etc). You lose the awesome warranty if you go used (they'll turn up to where ever your laptop is the next business day with spare parts and fix it on the spot for up to 5 years), but honestly repairs on them are effortless and any computer shop could fix most issues same day.

      Look out for:
      Dell Latitude
      HP Elitebook
      HP Probook

And to a lesser extent Lenovo Thinkpads. They used to be in that list but they now use "Thinkpad" on everything, including consumer models so it's no longer a hard rule that a Thinkpad is a business laptop.

Sometimes Dell Precision or HP ZBooks but they're on a scale of CAD machines and are rarely cheap.

HP Pavilion, HP Envy, Acer, ASUS, MSI, Apple, Dell Vostro, Dell Inspiron, Dell Alienware and similar are all consumer junk.

Microsoft Surfaces are the same, they're business-like but with shit warranties and difficult/expensive repairs.

The only exception to this is if you need a powerful GPU, then you're stuck with consumer junk and will just have to deal with it.

        Here we go again. :|
I have a perfectly functional 12 year old ASUS(HDD replaced with SSD). It outlasted many of the high-end Dell laptops that are issued from work. None of them lasted their 3 years replacement period fully. Yes, they are designed to handle heavy duty processing required for work. Most of them had fan issues, overheating issues, MB issues..

Yes there are rubbish consumer grade ones, but I would not generalise them all as junk.
I never owned or lived with a MS Surface one, but the ones I have seen with my friends are pretty well built and performance wise pretty good.

  • Sorry to say but Dell has the worst quality laptop on the market. I bought a new model laptop but only last three years and motherboard was dead on the 37th month right after the 3 years replacement period. I expect a laptop can work at least 5 years like my HP or even 10 years like my very old IBM. Very disappointed with this brand, will never buy again.

  • I just got the Acer Nitro 5. It's cheaper than this one. It's available at Dick smith for about 1200.

  • I want to downvote this because I have no trust in DELL

That's OK, but downvote your own dell post first! This one doesn't have a rtx 3080 so you won't have to wait 6 months

      • I posted the r11 deal which people actually recieved. I ended up buying the r12 deal which I doubt anyone will get.

If possible I would recommend a desktop over a laptop anyday. This may sound stupid as a desktop is not portable and you need a place to put it but everyone has a phone and most people have a tablet so I suggest to people searching for a laptop to just have a think about it because desktops are cheaper, faster, upgradable and much easier to fix/replace parts if required.

    • and generally more powerful. a desktop i3 is comparable to a laptop i5.
