  • Macpac is no longer NZ owned but Kathmandu is (as a public company), if you care about that sort of thing.

Yeah fair enough, that was pretty shit

      • Pretty shitty practice and hopefully not widespread.
That was from 2016 so I would hope that processes have changed since then, and the article didn't mention that it was a widespread company practice.

        • I worked for Kathmandu in 2006-2009. They were doing this back then aswell.

          • @Christo: Sad face

@Christo: I worked in retail many many years ago and I can see some valid points. FYI I do not work for Kathmandu! :-)

Big difference between faulty and secondhand used goods. When I donate to the salvation army, I also see big bins with loads of disposed goods, simply because faulty items are not fit for purpose and human use. Faulty items will eventually end up in the bin. As for fraud, yes there are people out there who will search the bins, take item back into store for a full refund, hence they need to be destroyed.

        • The process must have changed………to make sure they don't get caught again….LOL

      • Yeah I've avoided them after my debit card was compromised from their website and money taken out by hackers

      • also Kathmandu jackets had the security tag sewn into the jackets and would trigger off at the warehouse or other retailers,it would seem to re-enable after a while.

        • speak of the devil, wearing my puffer right now and just felt it and its still there. Anyway to get it out?

          • @saxasianguy: Fold it like a z shape and squeeze which will break the tag. It shouldn't set off security sensors at other retailers afterwards.

They aren't like that anymore, they have a black tag with instructions to cut. Not sure when it changed
