Warehouse culled staff during the lockdowns last year, and swapped to an agile business model. Which means more responsibility and duties for the same pay. I think that's pretty messed up. Especially since they definitely aren't operating at a loss and they're a business still providing essential goods.

Profit aside Warehouse definitely needs to change. Putting aside the threat from Kmart, like most NZ retailers they're rightfully paranoid of Amazon. Whether the stuff they're doing like The Market etc or even their online order model which seems to come under a lot of criticism is helping I don't know. And this doesn't excuse them treating staff poorly although if people boycott The Warehouse for what they've done to staff but have no qualms shopping at Amazon US (probably Australia too although I haven't heard so much about them), I'd suggest that's a bit ironic.
.They repaid the subsidy and paid all staff who took 10-20% pay cuts their full rate. That being said they let go of well over 1500 staff members iirc in that timeframe. They have a changing business with the surge of online orders during a pandemic, should they really be expected to freeze any restructures for 3-4 years?
It's also worth mentioning that Countdown, New World, and Pak N' Save have been accused of making excessive profits with their duopoly of the industry. Their profit margins are twice what they should be. Some supermarkets have even been profiteering during COVID by increasing the prices of goods.

Yup, couldn't agree more. I really hope that one day low-price supermarkets such as Aldi or Lidl would make their way here, hence disrupting the duopoly.
I agree with illegible the warehouse really treated there staff badly yet the guys at top and the company made bank..
….it's hard to put this without getting angry as I know people who had worked for them for over 20years to be told there's no full time job there for them
we got the bad list, maybe we should have the good list too… employers who went beyond what was required of them.
