  • Usually $699 from Toyco. Seems like a good price really - however it's just a big pack which is too much for me to invest in to.

Seller doesn’t look like they’re remitting GST on LVG so would attract 15% on the border, correct me if I’m wrong

Edit: some google snooping shows shipping’s from UK, again, correct if wrong

If they aren't charging gst you shouldn't get charged gst at the border as customs will assume you have already paid it unless the total value of the parcel is $1000+ NZD

      • I’ll default to if customs will assume anything, it’s that you haven’t paid haha.

TL;DR looks like you’re right but I’m still confused (q at the bottom)

        According to https://www.customs.govt.nz/personal/send-and-receive-items/…

If you're bringing items to NZ from overseas that cost NZ$1000 or less you don't have to pay anything to Customs, as GST is collected when you purchase your items. There's nothing else that you must do for your items to arrive.

Pre-paid GST would be declared on ICR Inward Cargo Report

        https://www.customs.govt.nz/about-us/news/important-notices/…

        GST is always chargeable

GST of 15% applies to all imported items, including anything you bought online or using a mail order catalogue. Overseas suppliers may charge GST on items sent to New Zealand consumers that are valued at NZ$1000 or less.

Q: so what happens when a seller isn’t GST registered and sends goods under $1000 to NZ? 🤔 Would love a definitive answer pointing to something official.

I’m very sceptical that every seller shipping to NZ would have a GST registration, this looks like trying to fly under the radar which is… frowned upon:

Please be aware that some websites may offer to declare an incorrect value for your item on the Customs declaration, so you can avoid paying GST or duty.
If the sender gives incorrect information or doesn’t make a declaration, your item could be delayed and investigated. In some cases, we may seize your item, and you will have to pay extra charges.

        • yes, its a threshold set by ird / customs otherwise it would be ridiculous to enforce / manage, leave alone internationally. its just like how some really small local businesses dont have to register for GST because their turnover is below the threshold. note that the threshold only relates to the websites nz sales, so thats how alot of them will fall below it, because their nz sales will be negligible.
