  Wonder why they keep having discount days? Not many people are filling up due to the high prices? Or maybe due to lockdown? But yeah, I haven't filled up in the last 2 months when Akl is in lockdown, still trying to use my $20 Waitomo voucher…LOL

    They usually discount every Thursday. Not always advertised.

    I wouldn't say they keep having them assuming you're referring to the nationwide & advertised ones like this. It's normal for Gull to have such a discount day near the end of the month. ¹

    So AFAIK, they've only had one extra discount day, this one https://www.cheapies.nz/node/29722 And since they missed one during level 4 in August, you could say there's no extra. All the other advertised & nationwide discount days I recall have pretty much followed their regular schedule which has been in place since maybe 2017? and in any case long before anyone had even heard of COVID-19 (by any name unless you believe wacky conspiracy theories). As couponfan mentioned, there are also discounts which aren't advertised and tend to be more store specific, at least one of of these has been mentioned on Cheapies. Perhaps that's contributing to your confusion.

    1. In months where the last Thursday-Friday are very close to the end of the month it can sometimes be difficult to predict whether it will be the last Thursday-Friday of the month or the week before. It's always after the vouchers from their staffed sites expire but that's around the middle of the month (latest I recall is 19th) so doesn't really help much. In particular, most of the time it's the next Thursday from voucher expiry which is always on Sunday. But sometimes it's the Thursday a week later. In this case though was easily predictable would be this particular Thursday-Friday since it's labour day the coming Monday. And they always seem to do it the Thursday before a long weekend like that. ↩

      Im referring the the price of petrol at almost all Auckland gulls sites, it drops by 6-10c a litre usually on Thursday and then goes up the next day. Every week, except during lockdown. It is not advertised except when they advertise the discount day.
