What did you buy this week?

I always find it interesting seeing what people spend their money on.

This is a place to yarn about things you recently purchased that you're excited about using, or to show how much of a shopaholic you are. Where people might find a deal that hasn't already been posted on Cheapies, and a place to ask for advice on items that have been mentioned.

@ace310: The joy of having two screens at work. One for Cheapies, the other to make it look like I'm not on Cheapies 😄

@ace310: It’s all about order of priorities /s

            1. Cheapies
            2. Family
            3. Work
            • +1

@bigcheese: Haha. If I go with that priorities and based on @Wakrak determination, soon I will only have Cheapies as the sole priority to look upon lol.

              • @ace310: Not a bad modus operandi.

How does the saying go? "He who dies with the most deals wins"?

Family and works are just distractions from your goal!

                • @CheapAzChips: Family and work are temporary,

Bought a bunch of random items off temu.
$279 worth, $179 of item discounts so down to $100.20 then used the $40 off a $100 spend coupon ended up paying just $60.20. Free shipping and the tracking is great. My 5th order from temu
    Raincoat
Stainless steel coffee filters already have some they're great
Large and small skull ice cube molds, are some of it

    • How do you keep using Temu discounts? New accounts each time?

  • +1

Hey cheapies, I have a $20 off a $60 spend temu coupon im not going to use. Message me privately and I'll give it to you it expires 11pm tonight

    • I've only placed one order so far. I'm aware of the new user coupon which we used. How did you receive the coupons for the following orders?

      • +2

I live chatted to ask what the 100% value coupon offer was about. And because previously had spent just over $60 they gave me 3 coupons. $40 off $100, $20 off $60 and $10 off a ,$40 spend. So I'd try live chat and just ask for 1 of these coupons, they seemed very generous and willing to give them away mine had expired and she re issued them to me again. Oh hey I earned another bunch of coupons here's the code for $40 off a $100 spend.
OPVNZ07. If anyone wants the $20 off $60 or the $10 off $40 spend, they're welcome

  • I got some cool stuff a few weeks ago. This is some of the stuff.

Redmi Note 12 turbo, flashed into Poco f5 $450
    Keychron v3 red switches $80
    Keychron v6 brown switches $80
Apagard Premio toothpaste 100g $16 each

I'm actually not too sure how much each cost me because of the complex coupon system, so the prices are approximate.

Lifejacket, countersink drill bits, hooks and diamond knife sharpener.
Second time live chatted on temu and got a $40 off a $100 spend coupon. I just asked if they had any coupons this time.
To clarify you add $100 worth of gear to your cart and it only costs $60 with the coupon. Free shipping with excellent tracking. Most stuff is already around 50% off. When you first get the temu app you get tons of offers for about a month, but now I get them just by live chatting and asking.

    • Nice tip re chatting. Thanks

i got a 7800xt this week, needed something to excel spreadsheets on multiple 4k monitors so i got this overkill, have gamed for 20min.

  • lots of uber eats

  • H&H plain t shirts. The Warehouse has them at $6 down from $9. 100% cotton very comfortable

    • Do you know how they compare to as colour and Uniqlo? My 5 white as colour tees are getting a bit tight and I don't have many Uniqlo ones so looking to get some more.

      • Not sure about the white t shirts. But long ago when having white t shirts using napisan made them so white it was remarkable

        • I was meaning quality wise compared to AS colour and Uniqlo basic tees how the H&H compare.

          • @Bill: Not familiar with those brands. The postie plus plain cotton t's are a little thicker so better for winter, colour wise pretty much the same.

          • @Bill: I have a few H&H t shirts, the black one is better than the white ones. The collar of the white one seems to change its shape after a few washes.

            • @Juju123: Thanks, seems strange that there would be any material differences other than the dyes.

Just saw that the t-shirts are now $3.60 each, so basically free at that price. Will pick up a couple and see how they are.

  • Sistema half price at countdown. The 3 pack 400ml are great for single serve soups and the 3 pack of 550ml are great for single serve frozen meals, though they are actually sandwich containers

  • Managed to grab On Cloudnova Women's shoes for $31.99 delivered. Last pair.

Other than that, been buying too much craft beer.

    • Nice. Have been researching and filtering out the yeast and kegging and carbonation with co2 is the way to make shop bought quality craft beer. Looking at the 29l kegmenter for an xmas present to myself. Uses soda stream co2 bottles.Would save me a fortune or you is why the share

      • I would love to get a couple of smaller quality Fermenter while i get the hang of things more.
Means getting it wrong doesnt wreck 23L

        • Oh my fermenter was only $45 its a plastic barrel. 30 ltr and the beer kits you buy make 23 to 25 ltrs. They are a big can of syrup with all the malt and hops etc. So your kind of stuck with making 23 to 25 ltr batches

          • @Bargainstalker: Yeah, i have a fermzilla, great but moving it is awkward when full and it just fits into fridge.
A couple of 12L ones with the same fermzilla setup would be much more manageable and I would just split the brew in 2

            • @Foodie: Check out the marquee 25 ltr water container at bunnings. It just fits my fridge and its square so takes up much less space. Good for fermentation and crash chilling. I'll be getting one soon. Just as heavy of course but square means a less awkward lift as the centre of mass is closer to the body

              • @Bargainstalker: The benefit of the fermzilla is i can remove chub easily from the bottom, avoiding yeast sediment from being disturbed and also allows really simple bottle filling.
Temp probe seals well in from the top.

I just wish they sold a half size one.

                • @Foodie: I had a look the fermzillas look great.
                  https://www.amazon.com/Kegland-FermZilla-Flat-Bottom-Ferment…
This is the flat bottom version I don't know if thats the one you have. Im quite interested in it, thanks for the info

                  • @Bargainstalker: I have https://www.brewshop.co.nz/fermzilla-27-litre-fermenter.html
The latest version is an extra $50.
The valve at bottom can turn and then bottom removed.
I also tried filtering when bottling but unless you CO² charge you dont want to remove all yeast.

@Foodie: Looks great. I bought a 1 micron beer filter and realize removing all the yeast means co2 carbonation is necessary.
But doing an experimental brew with using finings and crash chilling to remove as much yeast as possible but also leaving just enough for bottle carbonation. To see how good it can be without kegging and co2. And if i do go with kegging and co2 I'll have something to compare it to.
Have made beer on the cheap many years ago cloudy and yeasty not very nice but budget friendly. Now wanting to make store bought quality beer. Going to siphon off the top 3/4 and use the 1 micron filter on the bottom quarter with the most yeast. Should be the bare minimum of yeast for carbonation with the minimum yeast flavour.
                      https://www.brewshop.co.nz/beer-filtering-system.html

                      • @Bargainstalker: Nice, there is definitely an art to it.
                        I have
https://nzbrewingsupplies.co.nz/products/classic-bouncer-fil… with 3 different mesh sizes.
All the best with ur brewing. We might want to open a new forum thread 😀

                        • @Foodie: Was thinking that too! Ha. I've been making spirits for over 20 years. 60 ltr custom made reflux still, though realistically can only run a 54 ltr batch of wort its enough for 25 ltrs of 40% spirit each run. And now have a 5 ltr pot still for brandy, banana is delicious and looking to make banana vanilla cinnamon next for a mates xmas family gathering. Great fun
