New Meal Delivery Kit - Food in a Minute

Just thought I'd post it here for those who are interested in meal delivery services.

Saw an ad on FB for Food in a Minute by Watties - they are doing $99 (incl delivery) for 4 servings x 4 recipes. Had a look at the recipe and looks really good! Compared this to HelloFresh, this is much much cheaper - I believe HelloFresh is at $153.83 for the same package incl delivery.

This one costs $25 for 4 people per meal ($6.25/serving) - that's usually how much I'd spend with regular groceries considering how expensive fruit, veg, and meat lately

Have a look here if you're interested. Delivery coverage seems to be all around North and South Island (and free delivery too).

Menu for 13-15 Nov looks really good with a mix of ramen, tacos, spaghetti, and butter chicken!

Looks much better value than Hello Fresh which, as you say, is horrendously expensive. Use it for the convenience, but don't fool yourself that its good value compared to cooking for yourself.

I try to feed five for $20 a main meal, so $25 for four is not too bad.

Generally, I try to have the protein cost no more than $10, plus about $8 of veggies, and $2 for carbs (all very rough of course).

Hard to achieve with fish (for example), but easy with chicken or mince as long as you buy when on special, and freeze.

Best return on investment ever: Chest freezer - I reckon I got my money back in less than a year easy (probably six months), and they last ten years easy, and don't cost too much to run.

    • Definitely, quite nice to finally see a NZ company tackling down meal kit services with a really good value (I believe this is even cheaper than bargain box - it's still $135 a week for the same package).

I've been keeping a very good budget as well, cooking for me and my partner, but usually make 4 servings for dinner and just have the leftovers for lunch which have been working really well for us. But definitely since we live in Auckland CBD and don't have a car, our options when it comes to groceries are limited (mostly Countdown/New World, can't go to Pak n Save much 😅). But I usually do the same too, $8-10 for protein, $6-7 for veg and carbs, and around $1-2 for condiments, spices, sauces etc, although price of fruit and veg has just been ridiculous lately (once saw a 125g blueberries from New World for $15)

I'm personally going to try one and see how the portion size looks like and the quality of produce. The only downsides I can see is that they only have a set menu of 4 meals, so you can't choose your meal based on dietary requirements etc.
