  • I’m going to try and pricebeat x1 board game then add two others to my cart. Watch this space.

    • No luck so far. 'Can't pricematch because we have it in a bundle deal'.

  • Nice, glad I held off until now ;) thanks Wakrak

  • Thank you, got some boardgames for the kids for Christmas!

  • +2

Cheers! Wakrak you have saved me/cost me a lot of money.

    Success! on attempt no. 5.

Exploding Kittens + Sequence + Bananagrams + Handee Paper Towels = $45.80 delivered.

    • B2G1F
    • 20% off board-games
    • $5 off $50 spend
    • free shipping

I did a pricebeat on Exploding Kittens, bringing it down to $27.

    • I would say u have been lucky because normally they say “we cant price beat because the product at other reseller is currently on promotion “

      • +4

Definitely took me a few attempts. Emmie wanted no part of it, and I got her 5 times in a row 😄. Jules hooked me up though.

        • +1

Emmie got in trouble last week after her price beat from me, whoops 😂😂

          • @itshayden: How do you know this? Did they say so?

            • @L3tstaxth1s: My mate tried later through email, and Emmie said yes but offer didn't change, then he tried again referring to email and then the other person said she didn't wrong and she'll be notified

        • Jules gave me one price match but wouldn't match Dick Smith.. Worth a try as they have done so before!

        • Jules did me a solid with Exploding Kittens too. Thanks! 😄

    • +1

Haha, nice work on breaking them

    • Did you do the pricematch on the computer, have it added it to your cart, and then completed the order on the phone for the 20%, and $5 off?

      edit: or pricebeat rather

      • +2

Yep. This is what I did.

        • Added MClub vouchers to wallet
        • Exploding Kittens pricematch on browser
        • Add other items
        • Went to app & added free shipping
        • Completed order in the app
    • I tried a few times today while waiting for a work meeting to start. No luck, but everyone had a different reason for denying my request:
      - One said they don't "have that item on their end". (I interpreted this as them saying they don't sell/stock the game, but it was listed as in stock when I asked.)
      - One said they couldn't match because it was part of a bundle deal.
      - One said they didn't have permission to action price beat, and that I could email customer support. (Which I actually did late last night - and the response was that they could only price match/beat via live chat or phone.)

  • How do you guys action the pricebeat? Phone or email? The live chat is showing as offline in my app…

    • +1

Just have to keep trying, though I’ve never used live chat through the app. Live chat was online one minute, offline the next for me this morning.

      • +1

It probably went offline because Jules was getting a serve for actioning your price match!

      • Ah cool. I just rang up. Got Leonie. She was lovely but her tech was letting her down for doing price beats. She got me to add the single item to my cart, remove anything else, and that she’d get the price adjusted in my cart within the hour and text or email me, to confirm to refresh my cart for the updated price. Now I wait. (I went for exploding kittens too, thanks to you, I’ve been eyeballing it for a while actually so this is PERFECT!)

  • I just got someone saying they can't process price match right now and to leave email so they could manually get it approved. Maybe they're having tech difficulties? Ended the chat pretty abruptly after giving my email.

  • Has anyone successfully price matched with 1-day before?

  • Or worse and worse if you bought a couple of board games a few days ago like me… Sad emoji face.

  • Any recommended games for 4yo ??

  • I went back in the afternoon to complete my cart and check out. I had Exploding Kittens at $27 from Wakrak’s link, then I got King of Tokyo knocked down from $70 to $49.50 thanks to finding it for $55 at https://theboardgamer.co.nz/products/king-of-tokyo-2nd-editi…. I then added in Game of Life Junior at $29, and used the free shipping code. Total cart was $73.50 which is almost exactly 50% off full retail. Pretty happy with that!

For future reference though team, the T&C’s expressly specify that price matching will not be applied to items that are part of any promotion, so any of us who finessed it, likely unwittingly gamed the system:

“Products lowered in price cannot be combined with any other TWL or competitor’s promotion or credit offer, or with any trade terms, direct purchasing from the supplier, limited quantity offers or internet only retailers.

    • I'm surprised they gave you a second pricematch in the same cart (considering the buy 2…)! Good effort.

      • I would strongly recommend calling on the phone rather than using the live chat. I encountered a rather rude guy called Benson whose English was pretty awful. It was he who (very poorly) communicated to me that the price beats didn’t apply to items on promo. The lady on the phone had me sorted quickly and very politely. Do we know where TWG’s call centre is located?

  • For those wanting to give exploding kittens a try on Android the apk can be found on Google to play on the cellphone ☺️

It's a pity their stint of selling eurogames didn't seem to last very long at all, now it's mainly just kids games or the sad generic gimmick games

    • I was hoping for Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan etc. which they've had in the past (some 3/4 months ago).

    • 100% this.

For those considering buying board games for Christmas. It's a great time to get people into "Real" board games. (Eg just not just roll a dice and see what happens).

New Zealand's main shops for this are.

    GameKings
    MightyApe
    SeriouslyBoard
Whitcoulls is getting more and more.
    <And a large number of others>

Some great places to start re reccomendations are

DiceTower Youtube Channel (Watch their recent top 10 lists/Games for Christmas)
    Boardgamegeek.com

Gamekings are going from strength to strength at the moment. They had a 1 hour sale a few nights ago with an additional 20% code emailed out. Their rewards system is a bit unrewarding though.

Whitcoulls in Wellington have a great range

And I'm loving Amazon.com.au at the moment.

Given TWH has price beat, plus buy 2 get 1 free, plus an additional 20% off, plus $5 off $50 spend, plus free shipping I still couldn't find a way to justify buying the games on offer (I gave it a good try though!).

      • Haha yep, I purchased.. a rather large number of games in that hour sale (Even cheaaper than getting from amazon.com.au)

    • Toyco has some decent range too. Or rather they have Wingspan on offer, which is what really matters :)

      • The Warehouse actually had Wingspan and the Oceania expansion in stock till maybe a month or so ago :o

  • I managed to get a price beat on 1 board game, at first it was denied because of twl promo however I said I only wanted 1 game and could it be considered again. It was than approved. I waited a few hours before completing my purchase but added 2 more games to make the most of the buy 2 get 1 free and 20% off.

love this! i managed to get exploding kittens and catan price bet! all up cost me $51 for catan, exploding kittens and bananagram!

    • i should add that it took about 4 tries to get it but so worth it. i used the $5 discount, 20% off and also free shipping. fingers crossed it gets shipped :)

    • Who did u beat Catan with

      • i sent the kmart link! but i only realised later it was the australian website….apparently still worked though…

  • Thanks for sharing this OP, i ordered
    Elefun flyers game
    Monopoly junior electronic banking
