  • I'll start.

I use MYOB essentials and find it really helpful for invoicing, keeping track of payments and following up on late payments etc.

MYOB are currently running a promo for 50% off for the first year for businesses less than 2 years old:

    • Have you also used Xero? Any comparison? I was Xero certified back in the day (MYOB charged for their training while Xero didn't) and found it really convenient for small businesses, especially for people without much prior computer knowledge.

For a sole trader/contractor Hnry is really good, they charge a flat rate 1% up to $2000/year but take care of all of the tax payments, GST, filing, ACC, etc. I spend about an hour loading reciepts and invoices each month and have saved many thousands in tax from it. Obviously that goes for all of the other platforms too, but this is just really simple and quick.

      • That sounds good. No, I have not used Xero before. I jumped on MYOB with a recommendation from a friend

    • It says MYOB promo runs until June 2021, but in reality it is still current. Contact them to chat about it.

Make sure your Google business page, Facebook, social media are all up to date with contact info, phones etc Pretty much a free way to improve your customer acquisition. SEO is the next step, but if still starting out, get those steps sorted first.
This is especially important if you have a physical store.
Make use of business credit cards, you can get the same points as personal cards without breaking any T&C.
I have some super high value invoices (unfortunately very low mark up) that I pay monthly on the card.
Get a few grand a year in points doing this.
Even a few hundred is a bonus.
For alot of suppliers you might find they will let you put it on the card without any fees as it means they get paid instantly, and not on the 20th. And you can still pay off the card on the 20th without any interest charged.
