Per Lampefir's comment go with the push to start version.
Auckland had many aqua Tilda targeted by criminals .
I live at Christchurch
I have aqua and use it every day I imported it at Japanese auction as 4 , B B grade
It's a small but comfortable car gives about 21 kmpl to 27 kmpl
It's very stable at high speeds on high ways as well
It's a Toyota hybrid so the drive is very liner and smooth
It has better cargo space then regular Prius .
It's easy to sale as many Uber eats and Uber drivers use it .
A strong suggestion to put a immobilizer in aqua after buying it
are you able to share more please, where did you order from, which site and any tips etc.
I used SBT Japan agent was in Pakistan( I prefer as I am Indian ) but you can get your account moved to Auckland for auction for Japan . I paid 50 k yen for fob auction fees + deregistration + any other fees inclusive in Japan , aqua cost was 200 k yen about 3k nzd I wanted a 4 grade with B inside and outside condition .+ Good audio system Shipping you have few options the one I used was blue moan something It was about 1200 nzd including insurance to compliance center it was about 400 something for wof and other things + some more for registration .
You can aspect to save 3 to 4 k in total + 1 to 2 months wait times if you get the car your self
Toyota in Japan allows options like smart entry , cruise control on any car 🚗 and can also get many options in auctions compare to getting some car which is already imported in NZ by agent .
You can also try Nissan note epower for your budget range it's has more features plus it's fast + has many options default like 360 camera so on
thank you heaps bhai
Hi Umakant, are you able to send me a PM as I want to get some additional information about importing a used Toyota Aqua from Japan.
wow they used to be $8k a year ago. Must be that clean car rebate, and supply chain issues. And also because of demand to replace the stolen/damaged ones :-|
All the comments about security relate to the very base model not having an immobilizer. The easy way to resolve this is just buy one with push button start. Highly recommend not going with a cheap third party immobilizer as in some cases they're going to cause more problems than they solve unless it's installed by a professional (who isn't going to recommend a crappy one).
The fact of the matter is they're great little economical cars, maybe not the most fun to drive but will make up for that in terms of cost of ownership.
The Aquas that are targeted for theft are usually the basic models with an ignition key. The ones with keyless push button start are harder to steal, so recommend getting a model with this feature if possible.
One good alternative to consider is a Nissan Note E-power. These have similar fuel economy to Aqua. They are a different type of hybrid. The drive train is electric similar to Leaf, and the petrol engine just provides electricity for the motor and/or to charge the battery. They are slightly larger with better standard features than an Aqua (typically) and much more fun to drive with great acceleration (similar to a 2L car).
My mother has the Note E-Power. Cool little car. Her one came with a 360 degree bird's eye camera which makes parking a breeze
Worth comparing prices of the ones available in nz first before importing.. Also note slightly different clean car discount as well. At least you have consumer guarantee act protection if purchased from a nz retailer.

I think they have $500 off all cars this weekend.
Maybe need a very secured carpark…haha
