Those Adhesive No Nail Picture Hooks

Do they work? One of our walls is concrete so I either have to drill into it, which I don't really want to do, or use some of these sticky strip things to hang up about a dozen photo frames, how good are they? I'm just worried that they'll lose adhesiveness after a while and fall off the wall and nut someone on the noggin. The photo frames are A4 size wood and glass.

And if they are alright what brands should I choose/avoid and where's the cheapest place to get them from? Is it worth looking at ones on Aliexpress?

Cheers

We use the 3M (velcro-looking) strips. Bit pricy though. Got a few A3 sized frames around the house. Never had an issue with em. Don't know how they'd go on concrete.

    • Cheers, the wall is wallpapered so it'll be sticking to wallpaper not bare concrete. I looked at those ones from The Warehouse but with having around a dozen to put up was kinda hoping there were some others around that were about half the price.

      • The size I linked to is $5.84 at Bunnings. Pricematching at Mitre10 will bring it down to around $4.97 x 12 = $60. Guess use that as a baseline.

Or get the smaller version? since these (medium) ones can handle 5.4kg. After pricematching, 12x small strips = $50.

        Haven't tried any other brands.

  • The 3M ones are definitely the better brand to go with.
Just make sure you clean the part of the wall where the strip is going with an isopropyl wipe first to make sure there is a clean surface for it to stick on.
You can buy the wipes or a bottle of it from places like Chemist Warehouse.

They work well but yes can be a bit expensive.

    • I see on their site that they can't be used with textured wallpaper, which ours is, I was hoping to get this done this weekend but I might just go buy one pack and see how it works out. I guess I could always just bite the bullet and drill some holes into the wall, though it is a shared wall with the heritage building next door so not 100% sure if it's ok for me to drill a dozen holes into it or not.

They often still take the paint off, or ripple it so you can see where they have been.

Definitely - taking them off at a later date without marking the surface is pretty difficult.
Even though they are marketed as being removable they don't come off that easy, so pick your position carefully.

  • Maybe you could just get rid of the frames and laminate the photos. Then with a much lighter item you could go with good old blu-tack or similar. But yeah on textured wallpaper you are gonna struggle with anything really.

  • The 3M ones regularly fall off our painted walls. I've given up on them and now use cheap, reliable, nails.

  • 3m don't stay on forever and are unreliable for me.

I use this or similar to hang frames, clock, mirrors etc. It makes very small hole in wall so easy to fill up if required. This are very reliable.

  • I used 3M Command Strips on my previous place for 5+ years with no issues until I moved to a new house. I removed the 5 yr old sticked strips and paint was not even got removed. Now using the same brand in my new house for my 4 x 8 sets of frames. Maybe just follow the allowed weight and it should be okay. As per instruction, need to wipe first with alcohol and make sure to hang the frame after an hour the strip hangs on the wall.

  • 3M is a PoS. Cleaned my walls, let it dry and put command strips on, falls off after a week
