4K Die Hard for a tenner?!? Yes please!! Grabbed Braveheart and The Martian in 4K too (Xbox One X + 4K TV so I do enjoy a nice fixed media bargain from tie to time. Less than NZD$40 delivered (delivery for the 3 titles was AU$3.63).

    Cheers Wakrak!

  • How much better is watching 4k movies on a streaming service, like Apple TV+, vs the actual Bluray media? Is there any differences?

    • +3

Technically there's a massive difference as the disc allows for lower compression/higher file sizes than you'd ever want to feed down the internet line.

In practise though, would anyone know the difference.

    • +1

disks have higher bitrates and significantly better audio. wider dynamic range etc beeper bass higher highs. while the streaming versions are compressed only to reduce file sizes and can often come with compression artifacts like blocking on dark scenes

    • +3

UHD media bitrate can vary from 60mbps up to 100mbps

Streaming 4k bitrate goes from 16mbps up to 25mbps with Apple TV having the highest and I think Netflix the lowest

      • netflix uses av1 codec it has very very good compression its the same codec youtube uses

        • +1

The picture quality isn't all that noticeable, however the audio quality is. I always choose lossless if I can

        • -1

av1 is near non existent currently.
