Did you how much water does it take to grow 1kg of tomatoes 🍅?

The recent storm hit in New Zealand has caused heaps of damages, almost 2 days without power in most rural areas. These growers are survivers and so does these tomatoes.

Since last week we rescued over 800kg of imperfect Roma tomatoes 🍅 that were rejected from main supermarkets because they have a black butt and irregular Roma looking shapes. Perfectly fine to eat, but our current food system has no place for them except bins.

The blackbutt was due to water inefficient while flower 🌸 drop off. Very natural process, who does have scars from childhood? #imperfectiscomplete

We need your help to move these tomatoes as fast as we can, this price is a bulk rescue deal. if you run a cafe it could be perfect, or you'd like to bottle/preserve them etc.

If you think 15kg is too much, please pick up our mystery box as we will pack a kilo or two kilos.

It's great that they are doing this, and I totally agree that reject fruit should be used rather than binned, but the price of $3/kg is too high considering my local NW was selling perfect vine tomatos for $2.49/kg yesterday.

    • Also 15kg is a lot. If they rot before I can use them up they also didn't get saved. I thought tomatoes like this are used in the food industry to make tomato sauce etc.

      • Yep, $1 /kg would be the right price point for this kind of product. Higher is just price gouging.
