Recommendations for Variable Temperature/Smart Electric Kettle

So the lid of my Brabantia Stainless Steel Electric Kettle of about 2+ years from Briscoes decided to just fall off today all by itself so it would seem I am on the market for a new kettle. [if anyone is wondering, it was this one: https://www.briscoes.co.nz/product/1054955/brabantia-bbek100… - avoid at all cost, lid always had trouble opening. Warranty on the current listing seems to have reduced from previously 3 years to 2 years]

In between the time I purchased the kettle aforementioned and some time last year, I learned about Variable Temperature/Smart kettles. I've been wanting to get into those powdered green teas and apparently the usual 100 degree celsius is not what you want to use to make them.

If anyone has any recommendations on Variable Temperature kettles please let me know. From my search there doesn't seem to be too many around.

I see one from Kmart that seems very well priced compared to other stores: https://www.kmart.co.nz/product/1.7l-smart-variable-temperat… [$69]

Some other ones I've found:

https://www.harveynorman.co.nz/home-appliances/kitchen-appli… [$99]

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/p/sunbeam-alinea-select-kettle… [$159]

https://www.briscoes.co.nz/product/1066187/breville-bke825bs… [$179]

https://www.harveynorman.co.nz/home-appliances/kitchen-appli… [$189]

Any input appreciated.

Not sure about which is better but if you add CSCBG Main membership to your Noel Leeming profile then you can get the Sunbeam kettle in your link for $142.08

You will need to create a Noel Leeming Account first and then:

    • Go to your profile, click Add New under ‘Membership’ and type in CSC (CSC Group will populate)
    • Then under ‘Membership Type’ choose CSCBG Main.
    • Choose any organisation name from the list.
    • Click Add Membership
  • I'm interested in this too! One with google home capabilities or even with a gooseneck would make it a dream come true

We have the Breville Smart kettle, bought it new a few years ago for less than $100 in a baby blue colour.

Great kettle, different temperature options, but no wifi unfortunately.

    • We’ve got one of these too, they aren’t smart in the “internet connected” sense but the variable temperature settings are great.

"Warranty on the current listing seems to have reduced from previously 3 years to 2 years]"

SO ? CGA ………..I'd say that it should last longer than that considering the price and the fact that it originally had a 3 year warranty. Ask for a full refund. Might help fund the new one.

  • I like the stainless steel liner in the Xiaomi kettles

  • I like the idea of a wifi on

  • I love my brewista goose neck smart kettle. But vendor i bought from doesnt have stock anymore, this company is selling tho

The Ode smart kettle is also an option but its rather on the steep end… Price wise.

  • is it better to buy a bain marie? more flexible

  • Recommend the breville one, we had it and two friends had one as well. Best to buy when in special somewhere then get a 15% price beat from briscoes.

It can hold a temperature to keep the water continuously hot if needed. It doesn't support internet connectivity.

We've since installed a hot tap in our kitchen so no longer use kettles.

  • Had two of that same model brabantia, like you lid problems. Ended up changing to a different model after the second.

Take it back and get a refund. CGA them if you have to.

    • many of those kettles with a little internal plastic trigger to open have problems, so i arranged my water filter to fill from the spout.

I purchased the Kogan SmarterHome 1.7L Smart Glass Kettle from Kogan This is the same kettle but branded MightyApe. Kogan seem to be out of stock atm, and it doesn't appear on their website.
    I recommend the kettle 110%!
It does everything you are after, with the bonus of having an App to control it from anywhere in the world (perfect for turning on just before you arrive home, or turning on while still in bed). You can set schedules and can link it with Google Home or Alexa for voice control.
The price was usually around $79.99 on Kogan, and I purchased during one of their free shipping sales.
I see Kogan also have this Smart Kettle which may be suitable for you. Seems to be very similar to the Glass kettle, just doesn't look as sleek in my opinion.

    • Does it have a safety feature that it won't turn on if there is no water/not enough water left in the kettle?

      • Yup!

Boil-dry protection automatically switches off when there is no water.

At home we just get into the habit of making sure there is always a litre or so of water left after using it.

I just got the MIghty Ape version you linked to above a few days ago and I really like it.
It has a really good pouring spout and I love being able to set it up to boil on a schedule for when I get up in the morning.

Also, the Alexa integration is pretty cool.

Awesome I am glad you like it!

  • Hi just bought one from Supercheap auto, not a usual place you would buy kettle from. But the quality build is very impressive. No heating elements inside makes cleaning ever possible and much easier. 304 stainless steel and WiFi temperature control on app, variable temperature you can choose. Great price too

    • Didn't really need one. But for this price, why not.

    • Darn, that's an awesome price, aussy only?

  • I bought the kitchenaid one when it was $160

  • Xiaomi has some amazing instant variable temp kettles not available in new Zealand though ,
I have Xiaomi + Panasonic vip on 90c and zojirushi on 60 c
