  • This is one heck of a deal. Data in NZ is so expensive it's rediculous.

    • Yeah mobile data is crazy expensive here, the only other place off the top of my head that gets screwed like we do is Canada.

  • +1
  • The deal is valid for the smaller packs too:

    https://www.kogan.com/nz/buy/kogan-mobile-prepay-voucher-cod…
    https://www.kogan.com/nz/buy/kogan-mobile-prepay-voucher-cod…

The 'small' plan would work out to $80 per person per year, which is insanely good value.

  • +2

Some thoughts - I got this deal last time and have found it crazy good value, but it's like flying Jetstar - you're on a budget service. Mine didn't work on 4g initially (only 3g) and it took some messaging them with poor communication on their part to get it fixed. You also can't reply to 'premium numbers' e.g. the 4 digit vet/doctor to confirm your appointment. In my eyes it's worth it to save that much money, but may not be for everyone.

    • Agreed. I switched from Vodafone and created a personalized number (my name) via Skinny, then transferred that too.

It's all run off of the Voda network, so I've not seen any difference. My second SIM I have in my laptop for easy on the go mobile data. Paying $165 for a years worth of mobile data convenience, can't complain about that.

The not being able to txt 4-digit numbers is mildly annoying… Can't txt GeorgeFM… But barely noticable.

      • +3

I won't be able to call you from my phone though.
If my wife saw me dialling: 0204 LATEXFIST then I'm not sure I could explain that without getting in trouble.

        • +1

I think if you check, you have misread, and it is one too many digits. Should be:

          0204 5283 9347

          which is actually:

          0204 LATE WE IS

          Apparently, they are always tardy.

No idea what made you think that Latex Fist's number spelt anything else.

          • @Alan6984: I must have misread.
Calling LATE WE IS will be much easier to explain.

            Thanks.

            • +3

@bigcheese: I like you all. You're my kind of people.

You got my number, now call me x

      • cant text unless you top up credit right? if you top up, you can text?

        • +1

Unfortunately, there's not a way to actually top up an account. The only option you have with Kogan is to purchase one of the 3 plans on either a monthly or yearly basis. Therefore, you can never pay to txt a short 4 digit number.

I mean it's a good cost saving technique, there's no point wasting your money txting a radio station. Only once have I had to call my dentist though instead of replying "YES" to confirm a booking. Otherwise no different from being on Vodafone.

    • Mine just arrived and also doesn't seem to want to do 4G - do you remember how your issue was resolved?

  • This is a great deal, I got it last time when it was 50% off - but actually bought two so this would have been just as good. I did have a real pain getting the sim cards and had to go through support which took a little while - other than that, no issues. I dont think the price can be beat. I swapped from a Spark plan which was $59.99 for only 1/3 the data (but "free" spotify) and Spark had the nerve to try to then charge me for Spotfiy so I ditched them for 1/4 the cost.

I have just been in the US for the last 3 weeks and had roaming on and the price for that was pretty competitive (depending on your use, actually better than say VF) and very easy.

    • I am with Vodafone and always buy $19 dollars 7 days roaming pack when I go overseas. It gives me 1gb, 100 mins, 100 text which is plenty for me. Just wondering how does Kogan roaming rate compare to Vodafone please.

      • +2

The VF price is going up to $22 btw (gotta love that taking advantage of inflation) The Kogan price is similar to that actually at $11.9 per 3 days and they have another plan which is data only - which again sort of worked well for me on a long trip as you could sort of have gaps and swap to data only on the weekend for example when I didnt need business calls etc. On the flip side activating it every 3 days is a bit annoying as well.

I was more comparing to the on account charge where they hit you $7 (soon to be $8 a day) and you use your current plan entitlement - that might be ok if your on a unlimited data plan and hitting it hard but for me is way to much and is $56 a week vs Kogan which is more like $23

Overall thou they have a reasonably competitive option which is great as that could have been a deal killer for me.

Anyone want to go halves in a small or medium plan?

    • +1

Keen on a small plan to cover my spare phone….

  • If we got this last time, can we get it again to extend our current half-off plans?

    • +9

      Be really careful doing that.
You will find that if you apply a new 365 day plan it will overwrite whatever you had left and give you a new 365 days from activation. It won't extend it.

  • Halves on a large anyone?

    • Keen.

    • Now sorted with a member. Great deal!

  • I'd be keen for halves on small! Let me know :)

  • Anyone wants to go halves on the large plan? asking on behalf of a friend who wants to get it. Let me know and I will get the deal and share the code after money transfer.

  • Anyone keen on the large 15GB monthly plan? PM me Thanks.

    • here

    • new to this website, PM u tomorrow.

      • Cool. cant seem to PM you yet. Thanks.

        • +1

          can you try again?

          • @robinz: Did you get my PM?

            • @zqsn: check you message, cheers !

    • +1

I am also keen on large plan too if still on offer

      • Hey yep send me a PM please. Thanks.

        • Sorry sorted with someone else

  • I am keen on the large plan. is anyone wanting to go halves?

  • I have a spare large code and have a spare sim card ready to go. If anyone is interested in the West Auckland area..

    • I don't need the sim just the voucher. will private message

    • Sorted with this member, they are trustworthy :)

  • 15GB plan anyone want to go half? $165 each. PM me.

  • Does this stack if you put both vouchers on 1 SIM?

    • No.
You can only be on one prepaid plan - they do not stack.
The second voucher will overwrite the first.

  • Anyone who wants to split the Large?

  • +1

I have a spare sim in welly CBD if anyone in welly wants to split a plan with someone elsewhere in the country.
Just trade me a bottle of Coke or something

  • Keen for splitting a small or medium plan with someone else…

  • Hi, does anyone know if Kogan supports wifi calling?

    • Yes/No… So far with my experience with it (Just under 24 hours) It sometimes does wifi-calling and sometimes it does standard calls.

      • Thanks! Keen to hear other's experiences on the wifi calling aspect as I don't get good cell reception at my place

        • Update: If I turn my phone to flight mode, Wifi calls work seamlessly

          • @psychowei: That's a bit worrying.

If you place your phone in 'flight-mode' it should stop all wireless connectivity, including WiFi, bluetooth, NFC, and cellular communications.

Are you sure you didn't turn WiFi back on after setting it to 'flight-mode'?

On the other hand, if you just want to turn off cellular comms, then just turn that off.

            • @Alan6984: Oops, I meant flight mode and enabling everything else, I.e. Just turning off cellular coms :)

  • Hi, I have a large plan 15gb/month, ready to split with someone (i purchased already)
If you have a sim card already then great! i can send you the voucher code once payment comes through
If you dont have a sim card, then i can pass you one in a week or 2
    Please PM me. Cheers

Great to see so many new ‘Cheapies’ on this post.

Just a word of caution though.
Remember this is an unregulated forum - be careful sharing your details amongst users that have literally signed up today for this deal in order to go halves in a plan.

I’m sure most (hopefully all?) are legit.
Just remember the swimming pool scam

Don’t want to see any more Cheapies lose their money!

Anyone keen to split a large plan? Please PM me. I am based in Mt Roskill if you want to meet in person

Would like to share the small plan.
    Anyone keen?
    Pm me.
    Cheers

    • I Private Messaged You. Hopefully not too late as Your post was over 11 hours ago.

    • Hi, I've sent You a couple of PM's if You could reply please thanks.

  • Just want to be clear, you can call standard nz mobile and text to standard NZ mobile for free? Only limitations are texting toward 4 digit numbers. You can still receive all text (especially 2 factor auth ) and call from mobile and landline right?

    • yes that's correct, you can also call and text Australian numbers and also send MMS.

    • Yes calls/txt are free to standard numbers.
You can receive all texts you just can't respond to premium text numbers. This also includes some of the txts you can get from doctors, dentist etc asking to confirm appointments but if you can handle that then it is a good deal.

  • Does anyone know if we can still apply this voucher if we are already on a Kogan plan?

    • +1

      No.
You will lose your remaining time on your current plan and start again with a new 365 day plan if you do.
It will not extend your current plan.

    • +1

I'm pretty sure I did that about eighteen months ago, and it killed whatever I had in place, and replaced it with the new voucher / offer.

If that is correct, you might lose anything you have on your current plan - it might not just 'add' the new stuff.

Probably best to check with Kogan Mobile first.

      Alan.

Edit: Looks like BigCheese beat me to replying, with the same answer but more definitive.

  • Anyone keen to go half on the large plan, PM me.

  • Anyone keen to go halves on the small plan? I've been with Kogan Mobile since launch a couple of years ago so I have My own sim. PM Me if interested please, thanks.

  • I got this last December and no complaints so far other than the "User Interface/App"

It's dreadfully made and won't show me the days left for the new data plan to kick in, So I have to manually remember how many days are left before I get the new data allocation.
Contacting them to sort it via chat but it was equivalent of talking to a tree.

    • +1

It is definitely a terrible app.
However, I can still see the expiry date if I go into the app (iOS) or login via browser on computer for the plan my kids are on.

Have you tried it on computer instead of the app?

      • +1

I did try previously on iOS and now on android and also the web browser on my laptop, same result.

I might be doing something wrong, When I click on my Plan it shows.
        Data UsageUSAGE DETAILS
        XXGB of XXGB used

        XXGB remaining
280 days remaining(of the actual voucher) and also shows that Prepay Plan expires on: XX Dec 2022 but no sign on the next rollover date for data refresh.

Their "APP" is basically a link that takes you to the online Myaccount webpage hence I doubt the platform would make any difference.

        • +1

Sorry, I get what you mean now.
          You are correct.

I was referring to the date the plan ends (as in your case 280 days) and expiring on a particular date.
As far as I'm aware it doesn't show the date of the monthly data refresh which is pretty useless. Every other prepay mobile plan I can think of does show this, so not sure why it's missing (or I can't find it!) with Kogan.

          • @bigcheese: But if you know what day you started, or when it ends, then you know the monthly renewal date.

I can see that my plan started on 27 Jan, so it renews on the 27th each month.

            • +1

@EPA: The data is every 30 days - not every month so if your plan started on the 27th Jan it would go until the 25th Feb, then 27th March etc.
It's close enough but not to the day.
Doesn't concern me as it's my kids who are on Kogan and it is more than enough data for them.
My point was that it doesn't actually say it on the app/portal when it would be so easy to add that functionality.

  • I have a spare large code if anyone is keen to purchased off me. Member of choicecheapies since 2019. Thanks!

  • Merged from Kogan Large Plan (15GB)

    Hi everyone,

I was wanting to know if anyone would like to share the Kogan 15gb large yearly plan. Im happy to meet in person. Im located in Papatoetoe, Auckland.

    Thank you

    • Thanks for the offer but how would that work exactly as there's only one sim?

      • The offer ships with 2 sim cards.

  • Got this same deal last year in August for the large plan $165 for 15gb a months for a year is incredible value.

    Obvious caveats apply,

    4G only.

I have head people having issues with there customer service but I've never had to use it.

But personally it is perfect for me as 4g speed is fine when I am away from home and work.
And thr plan is very much set and forget for the year.

  • Hey I'm looking to split the small plan. DM me if keen to split. Thanks! I'm based at North Shore in Unsworth Heights if wanting to meet in person.

    • Hi, I replied to Your PM.

  • Can anyone tell me if Kogan currently allows you to 'redirect' your voicemails?

With 2Degrees (and, I'm sure most others) you can enter an alternative number for your voicemails to go to. I want to have mine go to my business line voicemail (so I don't have to check voicemails in two separate places).

I know some providers, Skinny for sure, don't allow you to do that.

    Thanks,

    Alan.

    • This is on the Kogan website.
Doesn't specifically mention voicemail though and I can't confirm from personal experience as I've never tried it.

      • Its a good sign - Skinny don't let you do that either, even via your handset.

Would be good if anyone can confirm they have tried it, and it works with voicemail.

  • I have one Kogan large plan voucher available for sale. I have over 200+ positive feedback on trade me. If anyone is keen to buy from me, I am happy to set up a trade me listing and we can do it all from online, that should introduce some trust. If anyone is keen, please PM me :)
