  • thanks Wakrak! I think you probably put the sale end date as the sale start date (it's showing that sale starts in 6 days)

      Whoops thanks for that.

WARNING: this appears to be at least 30% Maltitol, which is a powerful laxative.

If you bake a chocolate cake with this, you will be making a second chocolate cake with extreme urgency.

    • nice warning . chur

Hmm, according to Wiki, 40g of it will give you stomach discomfort and gas, and 90g will cause an eruption. So used as chips for cookies or toppings it should be okay, but melting it would be bad.

    😄 well… shit.

    • lots of it.

I'm still keen to try. This is a good price, sugar-free or not

  • Inulin will give you the sh1ts worse than maltitol, lucky there isn't too much in this one. If you want a real sugar free chocolate try the healtheries range (this one is a compound, not a chocolate)

    • Interesting, if you have done the research you may know bit more about this. My partner is lactose intolerant but also wants sugar free choc baking bits. Healtheries baking bits is currently at $8 vs this one at $1.90 Do you know any good alternatives?

      • Go with dark chocolate. The manufacturer will state that milk may be present but shouldn't hurt your partner at levels for lactose intolerance. This is more for people with sensitive allergies where they are allergic to the protein. My recommendation is to get regular dark chocolate with sugar rather than getting sugar free because it's actually enjoyable to eat. If you are wanting to reduce sugar then more cocoa content = less sugar.

        • Yep, Whittaker's Dark Ghana is dairy free

          • @Plug: Thanks

          • @Plug: No it's not, but would be fine for someone with lactose intolerance as opposed to milk protein allergy. Dairy-free is a very specific claim in chocolate manufacture. https://allergenbureau.net/guidance-to-anz-food-industry-all…

            • @NS: Due to using the same production line, yes, but in terms of manufacture there is no milk added.

Whittaker's even mention this on their website:

Does your dark chocolate contain milk?
Milk is not an ingredient in any of our dark chocolate over 50% cocoa (except our caramel flavours). This makes it a popular choice for people who are lactose intolerant and vegan.

However, our dark chocolate is made on the same production line as our milk chocolate varieties, so it may contain traces of milk chocolate.

        • Thanks!!
