ShopBack Signup Australian Number - Need Help

I have joined cheapies today, after being a guest for about 2 months, I figured it would be worth it to finally make an account. My problem is I want to signup for a ShopBack account but I need an Australian phone number, can anyone help me with this? I have tried a lot of free otp au numbers but they have all been used. Thank you for for any suggestions or solutions.

    I brought a sim from oz for this purpose but when I went to activate it to get the SMS verification it asked me to take my passport to my local au store. So don’t do that lol. Your best bet would be to find someone in oz that hasn’t used their mobile for this purpose yet. Good luck!!

      Wow - They must have gotten seriously stung in some way to make prospective customers jump through a hoop like that (I would never sign up to something that required that in NZ) but I can't imagine what that would have been.

      • It's government regulations. NZ is one of the rare countries that don't ID check for a prepay sim.

      That is definitely surprising, I contacted support and they said they welcome New Zealand customers, you just have to create an account with an AU number and then from your profile you can change it to a New Zealand one. Quite a lot of hassle but could try asking someone on oz bargain or something, thanks for the response, if anyone else has experience with ShopBack signup please share your experience.

    That is crazy, my NZ sim worked back in 2019.

    Cashrewards doesn't need a SMS verification, as an alternative (if you haven't signed up for them yet).

  • I did the impossible I found a way to do it, I had also been looking for a way to signup for ShopBack and have finally done it after so long (solid 3 hours) anyway I will first say what doesn’t work (for me anyway). Australian temp numbers online: they do not work, they are either already registered or not working. Next I tried temp number service for WhatsApp because if you resend a otp on ShopBack you can get a code through WhatsApp. That also failed. Then I tried voip services, this could work but in my case ShopBack detected it as invalid so it did not work. Finally I thought let’s try an e sim so I looked up and saw that Lebara offered it. Provided you have an esim compatible phone you sign up for the 5 dollar trial plan for 5 days (5.71 NZD with PayPal). All you have to do is setup the esim on your phone and you can get texts, here is the link for convenience https://www.lebara.com.au/mobile-plan/extra-small-5-day-sim/

    • Optus offer a 7 day free "trial" with a prepaid esim, so could be worth trying that as an alternative. I got to the ID verification step, and international passport was an option.

      • I had tried that and my passport was not valid which was strange and after many tries I gave up on it and after trying more things I found the solution that worked for me. (Below this reply)

  • I got a text from ShopBack saying that my Australian number is no longer associated with ShopBack, most likely meaning I can use it again for another account. So For anyone who is seeing this if you need a Australian otp number for ShopBack or some other thing which is reasonable private message me and I will share the number for free. The only reason I am doing this is I have no use for this number and it expires in 5 days anyway.

    • I have tested and my au number does not work anymore for new ShopBack accounts, but you can use Lebara for one ShopBack account. So my method still works you just cannot add your nz number and then reuse your au one.

  • Reading this thread with interest and found this eSim that can be purchased online and used in AU;

    https://esims.io/providers/nomad/73041417772e

    NZ$2.91 for 7 days validity. I have no idea if it'll work for this activation but might be worth a gamble?

    • Not gonna work. It's data only.

      • Well spotted. Thanks.

  • Be aware of ShopBacks [significant data leak] (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/568593). I deleted my account after that. Their attitude and comms were lacking and it seemed like they were more interested in self preservation than doing the right thing.
