Just wondering how we claim tax credit for school donations. We have been regular donors to a number of charities for decades, they always send us end-of-year receipts but our kid's school doesn't — they only send invoices. Do we need to ask them to issue receipts, or can we just send invoices and bank statements showing the payments? Thanks.

If the school is fully 'online' (many, probably most, are now), you can usually just login to the school parent portal, find your donation in the financial section, and print your own receipt.
If not, then as L'GrandeOdour says, just contact them and ask for one.
Yep, others are right. I actually lodged some of these just last night because my new accountant didn't do it as part of our tax return and it's really straightforward. Just log into MyIR and you will see a link there where you can record and upload receipts. You can submit receipts from up to 4 tax years ago.
Thanks for advice everyone! :)
Yes you need to ask them for receipts.
IRD won't accept invoices/bank statements showing payments - even for a school.
Here's the link on the IRD website showing what information needs to be on the receipt.
School's don't always give out a receipt when you pay but will be able to provide one if you ask.
