Christchurch City Council is partnering with Canterbury Police and bike security platform 529 Garage, the world’s largest community-powered bike recovery service, to help prevent bike theft.

529 Garage is a bicycle registration and alert technology. Their tamper-resistant 529 Shield is a decal containing a unique seven-character ID that adds an extra identifier to your bike. It sends a warning to thieves that the bike is registered and there will be a community of bike owners looking out for it if it gets stolen.

If your bike is stolen and found by Police or another person, they can look-up your bike on the 529 Garage website, using your unique shield ID number, and get it back to you.

We are offering 529 Garage shields free for a limited time, so get in quick, and tell your friends.

Show your registered bikes in the 529 app, or your confirmation email, at one of the following bike stores to get your free shield:

  Its a shame this initiative is only supported at a regional level (ie in Chch Police only) and not nationwide :(

      i wasn't sure what these were thinking it would be something permanent, i find it hard to believe it would be sold with the sticker still on.
