It's plastic, not down. "It features 3M™ Thinsulate™ Recycled Featherless Insulation that is made with 75% recycled loose-fill fibers, which feel just as warm as 700 fill power down, but still perform in wet conditions."

    • Can synthetic materials still be classified as down? i.e. feather down vs synthetic down.

Green version also available on The Market for $149.97 = free shipping + coupon use if you're a MarketClub member.

  • From my outdoor experience, I prefer high quality synthetic insulation over down, especially if it's multiple day tramp/climb etc, because the down losses insulation if it's wet, this can easily happen due to either rain or moisture from your body, the same applies to sleeping bags.

Of course it would be different to extreme temperature like high altitude mountains or polar expedition.

I think the majority of users buying these down jackets would be just needing the extra warmth when getting out of their SUVs.

Synthetic jackets can also be washed unlike down jackets.

  • Looks like Torpedo7 sells this. Does anyone know if this discount applies on top:

    • I don't think they sell this particular jacket (well…. couldn't find it when I looked yesterday).

      • Which branch did you look at? Was thinking of going to Sylvia Park this weekend and take a look there

        • I just searched for Marmot Solus on the website and couldn't find anything. Am I misunderstanding you maybe?

          • @Wakrak: Ah I see. Yeah you're right, I just did a search on Torpedo7's site and can't find it either. I was hoping to try out the jacket in person and one of the store locations listed on Marmot's site is Torpedo7, so I just assumed that they'll have this in stock.

    • I just called Marmot and they don't have this jacket in any of the physical stores. But they said if you contact LivingSimply, they could potentially get some in for you to try.

Free shipping is for items over $150 and since this is $149, obviously free shipping won't apply here. It'll cost about $7.5 to get it shipped and if you got the wrong size, you can send it back for a new size.

Also, the sale only applies to order on the website, not if you buy it elsewhere.
